Pure vocals dance, rage and softly sit above the intoxicating rhythms of Kat's vintage Martin and a gutsy blend of stellar guest musicians. Alto and warm wood--bare, sweet & striking.

notes
"Pure. That's the voice that appeals...that's Kat Mills."
-Ulster Publishing, Kingston NY
"Music that feels more like an intuition than an actual product.
Kat Mills has found a way to go beyond what we think we hear or feel. Intangible." -Independent Songwriter
-----------------
Kat Mills is a radiant, class-act songwriter showcasing the raw energy of a single voice and acoustic guitar. A powerful range, vintage instrument, and inspiring soulful material combine to produce a clean honest sound that leaves audiences wanting more. Reminiscent of another time, commenting on today, Kat is currently based out of Blacksburg, VA and tours throughout the east and beyond.
The debut album, Long Time, was released June 2003 and produced by Scott Petito & Kat. It features twelve original tunes and a stellar line-up of backing musicians, who add flavor without taking away from the main event. Scott has worked with such legends as The Band, The Fugs and Livingston Taylor...and now Kat Mills. Long Time is receiving national independent airplay and stunning reviews.
"Great writing, attitude, and simple production-high art."
--Dr. John Starling, founding member of The Seldom Scene
Born and raised in Metro D.C., by age 15 Kat’s commitment to performing convinced her father to give her his ’68 Martin and she began writing songs. She moved to the Hudson Valley of New York for college, and ended up staying in the area ten years. There she nurtured her growing repertoire of folk-inspired skills and a loyal Northeast following: first with popular bluegrass band, Grass, and then with the bare and moving solo show she is known for.
Kat Mills stands out in the world of acoustic women as soon as she starts singing. This rich alto voice is the foundation of her sound. The original tunes walk a tightrope between laughter and tears: sometimes hard-driving commentaries, sometimes mellow reflections or funny stories. A bit of twang here, a taste of smoky soul there, and always from the heart. Her music elevates the mood and invites thought without beating listeners over the head.
Kat is equally at home in an intimate listening room or on a festival stage. You will remember Kat Mills because she is passionate, experienced, and loves to be up there. Kat Mills is a class act.

Can't wait for the next one!
author: Felicia EtzkornI love this CD so much I gave my own copy away twice, once to my dear friend in Long Island and my other dear friend in Alaska. Such a treat to hear again after missing it for the past few months. I can't wait for the next CD!
LOVE IT!!!!
author: GinaI play this CD like it is my JOB. I love KAT! Can't wait for the new one! I have given "Long Time" many times as gifts--- the gift that keeps on giving! I love every song- most especially "Free Ideas" and "Wish" -- my favorites! EVERYONE NEEDS TO BUY THIS CD!!!
Love it
author: RobI hear Kat at a farmers market. Chatting amongst friends her tunes echoed in my head. I rode my bicylcle onward on my endevour of exercise. Her songs KEPT echoing in my head. I hummed and even sang as I rode. My course brought me back to the farmers market and she was packing up. I bought a CD and listened when I got home and it was the same voice and tune that had stuck with me. My inperfect memory was preserved in compact disc form. This one is going into my permanent collection. THanks Kat and I hope to catch you around town soon!
I love it!
author: Mat SchusterI heard this at a cafe and rushed home to buy it. It was soo good that I just bought another copy for a friend who just told me she loved it too!
a slam dunk!!
author: carey dammannbeing an old timer from the bob dylan sixties, and a folk singer in my own right, kat captures the essence of the genre. every song a genuine connect. i'm hooked and i can't wait for more!
nice, but not impressed
author: RobertI bought the cd based off a 20 second clip of Troubador. I think I was expecting a lot more. Her voice has definite quality, but I feel that it lacked power and purpose. The songs are simple and nice to have playing in the background, but I'm just not feelin' it. I wasn't hooked this time, but I'll keep my eye out for her next album and see if she grows on me.
Super acoustics and smooth voice!
author: ScottJust saw her live at the lodge at Deep Creek. Great CD. Two songs from the CD are on my iPOD, and I save that space for only the very best!
One of the best in years; does not leave my cd player
author: Mike BabbittThis has become one of the most played cd's in my possession. I found it by chance, bought it after a track or two and have listened over and over. The lyrics, the guitar, the mandolin, the vocals, violin... it is all there; all simple, and straightforward. It pulls me in and takes me to places I have cherished for what feels like a lifetime. I cannot recommend this cd more.
Kat rocks!
author: NatalieLong time has quickly become a favorite I turn to for so many occassions/moods. Kat's sound on this CD is mix of Indigo Girls and Natalie Merchant(ophelia era). Long Time has a great mix of lyrics and tunes that span the gamut. Check out her website for more sample tracks. Kat is an excellent performer, definitely catch a live show.
The Kat is Where it's At!!
author: Patrick DaleyI purchased a Kat Mills CD a few months ago. I just bought two more as Christmas gifts - because these just can't miss. Ever see a good musician in live performce, then his/her CD isn't done that well and you never listen again? Or the reverse, you have a CD you like, but then the live show isn't so good? Kat is wonderful live (and go see her if you can), and her "Long Time" CD is just outstanding. Great sound, great lyrics, wonderful voice... you just can't miss with this CD.

Great orignal tunes showcasing a powerful and textured voice reminicient of Grace Slick/Sarah McLaughlin/Natalie Merchant. The songs range from playful to heartbreaking in mood and the instrumental accompanyment is pleasant, at times interesting, but never distracting from Kat's strong songwriting and her rich voice. I've played this disk 10 times since purchasing it last week.
