In the words of one fan, Colleen’s expressive voice is “the most beautiful I have ever heard” This, from a blind girl who knows how to listen. Colleen is a bi-lingual singer songwriter who performs original alternative acoustic music in Spanish and English. Her voice is sultry, strong and tender and has been likened to that of Joni Mitchell, Natalie Merchant, and other divas. Colleen combines music and activism, recognizing the guitarra armada or 'armed guitar' concept of Latin American troubadours where the guitar and voice are mightier than the gun. Her recordings include About Time, Wideland , Sing it Down: Songs to Close the SOA, co-recorded with Jolie Rickman, and her newest 2007 release Inhabited Woman.
Colleen’s primary musical influence is New Song and Nueva canción of Central and South America. She lives in Central New York and when not strumming her guitar and composing, she’s teaching Spanish or growing vegetables. Pete Seeger says of her "Joe Hill would be proud. Great singer and organizer at the same time."
