Album Notes

About Love and Fire: A message from Katya:

I consider this my most personal -- and quite possibly -- my best work yet. I entered the studio in Boston with a new found confidence in my technical abilities and a deep passion for the wonderful dance pieces I performed. I am especially proud of Bolero, which is an unusual solo piano version, not often performed by many artists.

My friends affectionately refer to this CD as “Katya Unplugged.” Unlike many artists who record pieces in studio section by section, I decided to play all the pieces straight through to see where the music would take me. To my surprise -- and I think to the surprise of many at the recording studio – I played them effortlessly from beginning to end. As a result, there is very little mixing in this final product. It has been produced almost as if I’m playing on a wonderful Steinway in your living room.

I hope you enjoy listening to Love and Fire, as much as I did performing it.
Love, Katya

About Katya:

Described by the New York Times as "....liquid, dreamlike," Katya is world renowned in the purest sense. She is proud and inspired to share her musical gift with presidents, dignitaries and the poorest citizens in countries throughout the world.

Her vast travels to countries around the globe have awarded her great esteem and tremendous personal satisfaction. She was honored to receive the prestigious Guzi Peace Prize from Philippine President Gloria Arroyo. Despite the dangers involved, Katya ventured into Africa to offer her music as serenity and tranquility to the people of Kenya, amidst the country's riots and political unrest. From Africa, she flew immediately to Ecuador, where she performed a huge concert to benefit the country’s poorest children. And only a few months afterwards, she was honored to perform a private concert for former President George Bush and First Lady Barbara Bush. She even made musical history, when she became the first female solo pianist to grace the stage of Carnegie Hall’s historic Isaac Stern Auditorium for the tenth time.

Katya plans to continue her travels to countries throughout the world in the months and years ahead, sharing her gift of music with people of all cultures.

Impressive album full of graceful piano work
author: Diane and The RadioIndy.com Reviewer Team

Gifted classical pianist Katya has recently released her impressive album titled “Love and Fire: The Dances.” As the title says it all, Katya displays her love of music with emotions that are set on fire. Feel her emotions as she glides across the keys with grace and style of these classic compositions. “Waltz in E Minor, BI 56” begins sweet and delicate. Listeners will be able to feel the dynamics become strong and loud as the theme changes. “Tango ‘Balada Para Un Loco’” is amazing as Katya easily floats over the ivories while playing escalating scale passages. The sound quality is first rate as the piano is crisp and clean and every nuance is distinctly heard. Enjoy the relaxing ambiance of “Love and Fire: The Dances” as Katya has truly performed a superb collection of classical music from the classical masters Ravel, Chopin, and Piazzolla.
