Album Notes

Who Is Katy Creek ?

Wes & Nancy Ruybal (pronounced roo-Bell) have been performing their own brand of Western Americana, Cowboy Poetry and Gospel across the country since 2000. With a pure uncomplicated style, they present songs, stories and poems about the American West and it’s people from the modern day working cowboy back to the early settlers.
Wes grew up a horseback, cowboying with his father and brothers. His family’s cowboy heritage dates back to the settling of the San Luis Valley in Colorado in the 1680’s. His poetry and songs reflect his many experiences as a working cowboy, including the folks he’s met and places he’s worked, as well as rich and fascinating true tales of his life.
Nancy, a country girl from Ohio, began writing and performing folk music at age fourteen, later traveling across the country playing many different venues from Ohio to Texas, California to Arizona. When they came together, it was only natural their music and poetry would speak of our great American Heritage, the settling of the West and Wes’s own cowboy experiences in the modern world.
A Katy Creek concert is an exciting adventure of life and love, laughter and tears with a dash of murder, mayhem and mystery you won’t want to miss.

A review;
Katy Creek (Wes & Nancy Ruybal), western performers from Arizona, have begun to build a solid reputation for putting on finely-tuned performances that show confidence and maturity not only in their playing but in their stage presence as well. Nancy's heartfelt vocals place her as the band's centerpiece. After a song finds its way through her wonderful vibrato to your ears, you are completely satisfied. Her lead and rhythm guitar work is noteworthy as well, and Nancy has become a force to be reckoned with as a songwriter. Her lyrics reveal that not only does a very sensitive person lie behind that charming smile of hers, but also a girl who knows how to appreciate the beauty of creation and the depth, complexity, wonderment, joy, and sadness that marks the lives of those who walk amidst it.

The songwriting of Wes Ruybal evidences a writer who has lived the cowboy life - the REAL cowboy life. This isn't "stuff we already know", as Billy Joe Shaver wrote, from watching television and reading books. This is stuff that's been lived. It's authoritative. ...
