Album Notes

Originally from Havelock North, New Zealand, Katy Soljak travelled to California to pursue a musical career in the late 80’s following the success of ‘Ladies sing the Blues’ a popular 5 woman Blues Review in Auckland.
In LA Soljak worked with underground famous musicians and poets like Steven Hodges from the Tom Waits’ Band, Paul Barrere from LITTLE FEAT and sang and recorded with Jack Brewer (Saccharine Trust SST).
Soljak’s band ‘Soljak’, gained a following in Los Angeles in the 90’s and regularly played the Sunset Bld. clubs, LA cafes and Art Galleries. Her poetry is published in LA poetry anthologies and she performed in Cacophony events with BECK and the Dharma Bums.
In 2007 The Katy Soljak Band toured the North Island promoting ‘Morning Rain Blues’ released on Gala Records.A collection of blues stories penned by Soljak over the years.They were well received. Katy Soljak Band were featured on ‘The Good Morning Show’ TVNZ in October '07 and played the Mission Bay Jazz Festival and Hamilton Blues Society in February ’08.

I saw katy at Sonny\'s day in Newmarket performing with Billy TK and thought WOW, i bought the album expecting big things and wasn\'t disappointed, standout tracks for me are Denton and Raggle Taggle Gypsy Show.
