Album Notes

Kaylene Peoples is a talented singer songwriter and composer/arranger. She has an intense voice that profoundly affects her listeners. Her self-produced CD Rite of Passage deals with real life situations. Her lyrics are so heartfelt, that with each song, you feel like you're traveling through her very soul. Everyone can relate to the messages in this CD.

The arrangements are lush and the musicianship is impeccable. Kaylene is an accomplished flautist and is featured as a soloist on the two tracks "Human Frailties" and "Look My Way". Other notable musicians are Stephan Gibu on Bass, Mark Hammond on Guitar, Gerald Thompson on piano, Fernando Pullum on horns and a 12-piece string section featuring some of the top Los Angeles session players.

Kaylene is an award winning producer, having produced Christina Fasano's "Spiritually Wet", which won Best R&B Album of the year for the "L.A. Music Awards." She has music credits from American Pie 2, Serendipity, and selected tracks from her "Rite of Passage" CD have appeared in several movie sound tracks. She is also an accomplished film scorewriter composing and conducting musical scores for a variety of independent films including her own multi-award winning directorial debut film "Redemption."

Music in every form is Kaylene's love and this passion is translated so well in the 11 tracks of her CD "Rite of Passage" Once you've sampled this music, it will only whet your appetite for more. Simply Wonderful, Nicely Different, Truly Cozy

It excites me to hear the work of not so well known artists when it is impressive. This CD is by far one of the best ones I have bought. I liked it so much that I have been recommending it to all my Jazz lovers, Love to listen to nice cozy music friends. I felt the warmth and at the same time the touch of the singer and the songwriter with almost every song. "I simply loved it".

To say that this artist is deep would be an understatement. Wow!
author: Dimitri Preaux
I have never heard a singer put so much emotion into a song. Kaylene can milk a lyric and dare I say, take you (the listener) on an intense soul searching journey. I get lost in the music every time I hear it. It's hard to say which one of these 11 masterpieces is my favorite because each one strikes a chord in me. "The Rain" reminds me of a love lost, "Taken Over" really tugs at my heartstrings and forces us to face addiction. But the title track, "Rite of Passage," well let's just say that there is some real anger in that song. As all gifted lyricists accomplish, it's left up to the listener to anaylize, ponder, make up our own minds about what Kaylene Peoples really meant when she wrote these songs. She makes you pay attention to her words, and every time I listen, depending upon my mood, I get something different, deeper, and even more meaningful. I applaud the musicianship too as it brilliantly interweaves the orchestration with the rhythm section, something I haven't heard in a while. The strings are haunting, and her upbeat tunes are just as nicely arranged while still possessing a very charming quality. What I like most about this CD, however, is its honesty. It's real, it's pure of heart, and it's intense. Kaylene takes chances and puts it all out on the line. And isn't that what being an artist is all about? Kaylene Peoples is truly gifted.. and way ahead of her time! "Rite of Passage" is a must buy.

"Sophisticated Soul-Pop for the ambitious listener"
author: Joerg Michael Schmitt - Sonic Soul
Ladie’s Choice! And as to gentlemen: please, come out and discover a bountiful featured bargain of the month. Kaylene Peoples is arguably what one would generally call multi-talented. She is not just a vocalist. She produces, arranges, and plays keyboard. In addition, she has a leading role as an actress besides being a producer, director, screen-play writer for her own Independent Film Company in beautiful Hollywood. In Her album the "Rite of Passage," she performs at an extremely professional level in an unusual genre of “Adult Pop”: the ultimate entertainment, sometimes mistakenly taken as being too easy. "Rite of Passage,” naturally, offers pop-melodies. The songs are plausible, harmonic, and very smoothly polished. The music is great for dance and radio: pop in the best sense of the word. Which also has a great beat. With her excellent ear, Kaylene gives herself, and, respectively, her songs, structure and complexity. The usual mix of genres influenced by dance, r&b, and jazz, is not just a mix. The artist puts forth a message, interlacing these ingredients in a top-quality manner. A broad diversified instrumental background that includes strings and woodwinds, contributes furthermore to essential success of the album. Very noble, very sophisticated.
