Album Notes

With passionate vocals and hands flowing effortlessly across the piano keys, Kay paints songs whose moving lyrics and rich, haunting melodies strike a unique yet familiar chord. Her piano and voice create a texture woven together so elegantly that it evokes a beautiful melancholy that beckons the hearts of her listeners.

This debut CD is an impressive collection of songs that are both stirring and inspiring, with melodies that will linger on in your mind long after you have heard them. The artist says that a lot of the record is from the archives of her own life, which has often been a roller coaster ride! The hauntingly beautiful "The Old Oak Tree" was written about the deep loss of someone and yet beneath a grand old oak tree comes the solace and wisdom that love comes around again.

But it is mostly a journey through life experiences that can be related to by many. Though sometimes reaching emotional depths, it is also laced throughout with intelligence, optimism, and reflection on what is really important in life. In the honest "Lost in Love", Rose questions whether love is too high a price to pay, drawing from her own conversation with a dear friend about being a wife and mother and the difficulties in pursuing there own burning ambitions. The tender title song, "Words Left Unsaid", speaks of finding the words to let others know what is really in your heart. "Smoke Filled Room", says not be clouded by the smoke of the superficial things in life, but to see the wisdom in the eyes of an old man or a young boy of what truly matters. The catchy "I Miss You" is a song about longing to see your lover.

The record gains additional luster through the brilliant playing and production help of renowned guitarist, Jeff Pevar. Jeff is best known for being a member of the band CPR with David Crosby and David's son, James Raymond. Jeff has recorded and played with some of the finest, from Crosby, Stills, and Nash... to Ray Charles, Shawn Colvin, Rickie Lee Jones, and others. “Not only was his contributions to the album truly incredible”, but Kay adds “Jeff is an absolute sweetheart and working with him was the most rewarding experience that brought about lots of new growth and inspiration to me musically”.

Veteran drummer, Danny Montgomery, adds his great groove to the album. He's played and recorded with Johnette Napolitano, Elliot Murphy, Percy Sledge, and many more! “Danny is just a delight to work with. Not only does he play with such a great feel, but he keeps me smiling and laughing.” It is hard to keep up with his whereabouts, as he plays and tours between Italy and other parts of Europe. Rose is influenced by Joni Mitchell, Karla Bonoff, Suzanne Vega, Sarah McLachlan, Paula Cole, Elvis Costello, Dianne Warren, and many others.

This is a desirable CD to add to your collection just for the stunning digipak package that it comes in, which is truly inspiring all by it self!

Thoughtful, wonderful songs to find comfort in...
author: Danny Montgomery
Don Henley wrote: "How can love survive is such a graceless age as this?" Listening to the songs of Kay Rose I get the distinct impression that Kay has never heard Henley's song. And if she has, she has given that line little regard. Her music thoughtfully and intelligently speaks of the affairs of the heart, conveying a sense of innocence and hopefulness about love that never gets too syrupy. It is always a pleasure to be asked to contribute to a musical project that moves me. Kay Rose's songs move me… have stayed with me long after the last track was recorded... "Into the night. Into the dark where I find comfort from the fight." Kay Rose... and where I find comfort in her songs.

A remarkable CD. I could say Kay's playing, writing and singing are right in the pocket, which they are, but that somehow falls short. It is so evident she pours her heart into the music and in turn, the tunes touch the heart of the listener.
