If the fresh, poetic metaphors of folk musicians like Ingrid Michaelson and KT Tunstall married the warm-voiced melodies of Tracy Chapman and rented a room from the raw, "in your face" honesty of Pink, the babies would be the music of Kayte Grace.

Album Notes

"Kayte Grace's debut EP, "Soaked You In" is being called "meaningful acoustic rock," "catchy,"and "smart." One reviewer wrote, "Buy the 'Soaked You In' EP and you too will lock yourself up in the state prism of Kayte Grace's soul/heart/mind continuum and throw away the key." Another said, "Standout tracks include the flirtatious and clever Thursday Night Love Song and the porch-swing, lemonade-sipping, summertime love-evocative title cut." He called Kayte Grace "captivating" and "a wonderfully refreshing." This type of enthusiastic support would be welcomed by any recording artist, but a year ago, Kayte Grace was anything but a guitar-toting singer/songwriter.

Her story began when she stumbled upon a $50 guitar in a forsaken corner of Linens N' Things. She bought it, began writing acoustic, folk rock music while teaching herself to play, and posting the videos of her songs on YouTube. After being featured on YouTube as the Unsigned Pick of the Week in January, the video for her song "Soaked You In" received 250,000+ views. Kayte Grace then recorded her debut EP, "Soaked You In," in 7 hours and released it as an independent artist. Washingtonian Magazine featured Kayte Grace as a "Local Listen" - one of the magazine's favorite DC area artists that they think people should know about. They proclaimed that her independently released EP "Soaked You In" rivaled big-budget productions. They also wrote, Kayte "Grace's voice is more matured then her age might indicate—like Duffy’s, only Grace’s vibrato isn’t overbearing or obnoxious." http://www.washingtonian.com/blogarticles/artsfun/afterhours/12565.html

The 20 year old singer/songwriter and student at Columbia University is also a Screen Actors Guild member, and has acted professionally for over ten years, landing roles in national commercials and in television shows like Law & Order: SVU, HBO’s The Wire, and Gossip Girl.

She's just completed her first tour this August, performing at coffeehouses and venues in NYC, DC/MD/VA, Austin, Houston and throughout the South. Go to www.myspace.com/kaytegrace to hear her music, see pictures and watch live performance videos."

Six Songs In Search of Her Voice.

Five months after its release, the album is largely superseded by the musical activity of Miss Kayte Grace. In fact, only the young lady could succeed with her relentless pursuit of music, in making obsolete her very first work.On the other hand, if you are on this site and you are flipping through the catalog of CDBaby, you are not interested in the fleeting novelty in the record industry. As a personal footnote, I will say that I carried "Soaked You In" wherever I went and held it within reach for all this summer: I got beautiful memories from last summer. That's why this album could soar without prior notice to the top of my own hit parade anytime soon. Another personal bias in favor of its purchase is that a CD is better than an url address (if you have not taken the habit to read other people newspapers from behind their backs) because it's more long-lived than a download and shows more fidelity to the original and for those who live five time zones ahead away their favourites, Hi-Fi is an acceptable consolation for not being able to attend their concerts on a regular basis.Occasions will be, for all to attend Miss Grace concerts in the years to come. The simple act to order this CD of her will make anyone of her followers discover to anyone what kind of drive she has put behind this release and how dedicated to her musical career she is .This comes as a guaratee not for music producers or record makers but for just us, other people talents consumers or users. An artist that show such interest in her music and in its dissemination as Miss Grace does is likely to stay for decades on the scenes. Buy the "Soaked You In" EP and you too will lock yourself up in the state prism of Kayte Grace's soul/heart/mind continuum and throw away the key. The angles of light projected therein are the angels eminating from the great central... oh never mind, just buy it. That's the key to happiness. (I bought the CD here at CDBaby, received prompt service and shipment and reviewed it elsewhere. This is a copy of my previous review.)
