The third release from this ever-evolving Vancouver collective. If Sam Cooke was an equally dysfunctional, scratchy-voiced, white guy growing up in the 90s, his folk rock might sound a little something like this.

Album Notes

Brand New Golden Oldies is Kingsway singer/songwriter RC Joseph’s most rock ‘n’ roll endeavor to date. Featuring support from Canadian indie darlings Counterrevolutionaries as well as guest appearances from trumpeter Shaun Brodie (New Pornographers, The Great Outdoors, Hayden) and percussionist Steven Wegelin (Radiogram, The Great Outdoors), Brand New Golden Oldies is reminiscent of rock ‘n’ roll in simpler times, revisiting the upbeat swing of early Neil Young, the dark transcendence of CCR, and the grittier moments of Roy Orbison. Recorded at East Van Eden Studios, produced by RC Joseph and Adam Nation, mixed by the Mooncussers’ Colin Funk, and mastered at Profile Studios by prolific hit-maker Chôn (Ox, DOA, The Be Good Tanyas), Brand New Golden Oldies is yet another bright light on DDG Records’ luminescent coastline of extraordinary Canadian music.

“With a debut that was perhaps one of the best in recent Canadian indie history, it seems unlikely that Kingsway could continue to get better with each release, but somehow they do. Brand New Golden Oldies is Kingsway’s finest work yet… RC Joseph might just be the best lyricist in Canada.” - 24 Hours

“This collaborative CD is brilliant. Amazingly produced, everything is perfectly balanced but still has a slightly raw feel to it. The trumpet adds an alluring jazz touch, while RC Joseph's uneasy vocals resemble those of Isaac Brock from Modest Mouse. Everything about this album seems to perfectly portray what the artists intended. Five Stars.” - Youthink
