Embracing the traditional world of Rockabilly, the talented and energetic Keen Kousins combine the rustic and hearty tastes of vintage rock n’ roll with the honky-tonk flare of country & western swing. A two-man band with such a uniquely powerful sound and presence, that even the harshest critics begin to forget the meaning of a trio. With slick licks by Eric on guitar, and the strong vocal talent and potent rhythmic beats of Phil on stand-up base, the Kousins supply original tunes as well as classics by Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, Eddie Cochran, Buddy Holly, Elvis and more. The smartly combined energies of comedy and musical talent provide a guaranteed keen time for rockers young and old. Since 2001 they have been making some noise around their local town of Santa Cruz as well as many other places throughout California and Nevada, spreading the thrill of Rockabilly.

"Keen Kousins are passionate about the music they play"
author: Rya Holloway
One of the things that set Keen Kousins apart from others in their genre is the fact they have yet to succumb to the pressures of becoming a three-piece. Keeping their sound rich and full by utilizing only the upright bass and guitar, Keen Kousins have successfully maintained what few others have managed to fulfill. Phil Kleinheinz’s vocals on the bands first full length CD are the epitome of earthy sensuality, while Eric Callero’s timing in both guitar punctuation as well as backup vocals remains an essential part of this local rockabilly duo’s sound. This CD comes complete with well-written lyrics, creative licks and song variety, ranging from the get-up-and-go dance tunes to the slightly more melancholy songs of good love gone wrong. Songs like “I Gotta Go” can only be described as the type of tunes that have been written directly from the heart. The purity and rawness that comes across in the touching simplicity of the lyrics is enough to move just about anyone. Regardless of the song, it’s obvious that Keen Kousins are passionate about the music they play and, above all, enjoy immersing themselves and the listener in the sound they create.

This is so cool... I play in a rockabilly band in Holland and heard a lot of stuf these years! Good stuff but also bad stuff... But this is the real thing! With only two string instruments they amaze mefrom head till toe... Man this is it! These guys rock more than a 6-piece band... What a voice, slap en take off guitar! Pure and nice sound!
Must be in your collection!
