Album Notes

"I just know there are people out there who listen to the radio and watch 'music television' that have lost faith in music. I want 'Balladeer' to reignite that passion for music and expose people to independent music that doesn't challenge the listener to the point where they feel like 'working' listening to it. I believe I've made an album that will find its way to true music lovers. It is my sincere hope that "Balladeer" will become the CD in their collections that they reach for when they want to turn a friend onto something really special"-Keith May

"Balladeer" opens with what Keith says is his, "attempt to write a new standard", "Brian". The song is a slinky, sexy, and humorous character study that finishes with a fabulous keyboard/guitar solo. And we're off.........

An amazing collection of songs follows. "Crime", "Soft Heart", and "Greek" are perfect summer-night driving songs. "Dancer" and "Fallen Waltz" are best experienced with headphones and a cold mixed drink. The bombastic "Forgive Me" and "Nice" both command you to lean over and bump the volume way, wayyyyyy up. On "Captured" and "Hypnotize" Keith tips his hat to his pop influences while giving listeners some new hooks just in time for summer. "Past Life" returns the disk to the jazzy start and is a stripped down, "beyond break-up" song.

If you've ever seen Keith live what comes next could only bring a smile to your face. The familiar sound of "Last Supper" has been a live staple of Keith's for a couple years now and having it close out "Balladeer" is pure perfection.

"Balladeer" is original without being discordant. It is catchy without being syrupy sweet. It is an album that is intimate, passionate, and just a plain good listen. I know I am turning you onto "something really special" and somehow I know that you will soon be pulling "Balladeer" off the shelf telling a friend:

"Listen to this"

If you've already listened to Keith May, then you're a fan

Keith May has really hit his stride with this album. While always ready to take risks musically, Keith really focuses on his strengths with this work - that is, clever lyrics, vocal harmonies, and catchy guitar melodies. His lyrics are introspective without being depressing or sappy and often reveal his unique sense of humor. This album is tremendous from top to bottom. It's a must own CD for music lovers.
