Album Notes

Bound for Canaan

A great collection of traditional songs from Eastern Canada and New England spanning both the English and French sides of the New World. The arrangements are beautifully layered with double guitars, fiddle and flute in the spirit of the celtic revival without the weight of overproduction. And the directness of Keith Murphy's singing maintains the true spirit of traditional music. This is a unique contribution to the world of recorded traditional song. With Mark Simos (guitars), Mark Roberts (flutes and whistles), Becky Tracy (fiddle) and Rani Arbo (harmony vocals).

This is my first purchase of a solo album by Keith but it won't be the last. If you love his work with Nightingale (as I did), you'll really like getting to hear more of his voice, clogging and impeccable arrangements. This CD is tight -- it's no slopped together project, but a fine fine polished work.

Powerful and exciting arrangements of mostly trad. tunes! Great singing by Keith, and the other musicians on the CD really make everything fit together amazingly. Innovative, yet certainly not losing sight of tradition. Check out the mp3s, then do yourself a favor and buy it!
