Album Notes

"kelda is a talented band with a genius for bittersweet love songs . . . Take the opportunity to see this quintet in an intimate club and you may well end up with an 'I saw them back when' story to tell."
~ Sarah Torribio-Bond
Music Connection Magazine

"I can't remember life without music." Kelda uses these words to explain her dedication to life as a musician. With a singer for a mother and a jazz musician for a father, music is in her blood. Even her grandfather was a nightclub pianist with her grandmother keeping the rhythm behind.

Growing up, Kelda moved all over the country, living in six states and attending 11 schools before the age of 18. The only constants in her life have been God, her mother and her piano. Even during these troublesome moves, usually involving great distances, her mother always insisted on bringing the antique, upright Nordheimer piano along. And so at the early age of five, Kelda discovered her passion for the piano. Ever since, she's had ebony and ivory on her mind.

Throughout the years Kelda sang with several musical groups, including choirs, a cappella groups and so on, but at the age of 11 her musical transformation really began to take its course. Learning musical composition, she altered her focus from Bach and Chopin to her own work. As she has stated, "the journey of songwriting has made all the difference."

With a full ensemble backing her now in her band kelda, she is being truer to her music, passion, and message. The band is comprised of Andrew Glazier on cello, Geoffrey Jost on bass, Peder Thoreen on guitar and D Gray on drums/percussion. With musical influences from Tori Amos and Sarah McLachlan to Fiona Apple, kelda's unique and hypnotic songs can liven the hungriest of audiences and sooth the loneliest of hearts. The music can best be described as a sensual union of rhythmic funk and melodious piano-based alternative pop with immediate lyrics and a youthful sincerity that's earnest, open and real.

kelda is currently playing all over Los Angeles at clubs and coffeehouses, ranging from The Knitting Factory to The Gig and The Mint to Genghis Cohen (see "venues" enclosure for full list). Contact Kelda for more information via e-mail at kelda@kelda.net or via phone at 323-829-9405.

Music that's more than just a melody
author: Noel S. Boyce
This compilation is a very brief introduction to the musical stylings that have become backstreet pop. While not entirely mainstream the edge that kelda provides will be a stepping stone for the music industry as a whole. This record has bright notes that lift you up and deeper notes that make you think. This album is a must buy for anyone who likes Six Pence None the Richer.

Kelda definitely doesn’t lack talent; she just needs to evolve and mature…Master the art of reinvention, because that’s where the flavor of music comes from.

Such A Beautiful Voice! The Angels Are Singing
author: Ben Makinen
I was blessed to have seen and heard this uniquely gifted singer on stage at the DIY conference in LA, 2/2005. Sitting among bleary-eyed attendees badly in need of fresh air and sunshine, I was suddenly mesmerized a beautiful voice. I looked up from the stacks of literature in my lap to see the sun shinning from a stage presence that was at once humble and confident. Rather then try to overpower the flock of meet-n-greeters schmoozing about with volume, Kelda gently tamed the crowd with her sincere and passionate songs. We all breathed in the fresh air!
