notes

Kelli Hanson first discovered her voice through the power of rock and roll at the age of 13. Being influenced by the indie punk bands of her hometown, San Jose, CA and the powerful vocal style of Kate Bush, PJ Harvey and Guy Picciotto, she developed a stand out vocal style and sound of her own. Incorporating her unique sense of melody, grace and
power, Hanson began fronting and gigging with local punk and rock bands, honing what would become her stunning stage presence. At 21, Hanson relocated to Seattle, WA. Upon the first month of arrival she wrote, recorded and produced her self released first full length record, Aurora.
Hanson's next project was forming, singing, playing guitar and writing all of the music for the punk influenced rock band Tregenza. Tregenza stormed onto the Seattle music scene with no holds barred. Breaking into the Seattle music scene is tough for many musicians but with Hanson leading a blistering live show, the power trio quickly gained notoriety after just a few dates. After a couple of years of west coast touring with Tregenza, Hanson was invited to join and play guitar for the Seattle rock band Yeek Yak Air Force.
Hanson finished her second solo record entitled "Lullaby For An Astronaut". The album was for released on her label, Bigger Than The Barn records, in April '05. Recorded at the Gadgetbox Studios in Santa Cruz, CA with up and coming producer Andy Zenczak, Lullaby For An Astronaut is one of Hanson's most creatively outstanding albums to date. Mostly an acoustic based record, Hanson assembled an all star cast of musicians from around the world to assist and add their hearts and soul to her vision. Each of the tracks on the record take the listener on various journey's through lyric and sound. The additional tones and melody of the viola, slide guitar, Moroccan oud, Fender Rhodes and visceral sonics puts this record in a league of its own. Hanson is currently working on her new album, inviting new genres into her sound. Her new album will be released in early 2007.

  • Sterling production, unusual songwriting, great lyrics
    author: RstJ

Reminded me of the flip side of Zeppelin III and the ending cut could be a missing Spacemen 3 song. This is exactly the kind of CD I look for when I come to CDbaby--fascinating new music that isn't trying to sound like what's on the radio. Papillon de Nuit in particular is luminous. RstJ
