Album Notes

Kelly Brand has been an active player on the Chicago jazz scene for many years. She has performed at the Chicago Jazz Festival, at Symphony Center (Orchestra Hall), at Ravinia with her own Nextet and with Marion McPartland playing duets, on Joe Segal’s Jazz Cruise, and at the Elkhart Jazz Festival. In addition she works in jazz clubs, records, teaches, and plays hotels. Kelly is a gifted composer and has been awarded several residencies at the Ragdale Foundation retreat in Lake Forest, Illinois.

Kelly’s previous recordings include “A Dream In A Stone” on Koch Jazz (Chicago Sun Times: “Brand has a flowing winsome style as a pianist and an even more impressive harmonic sense") and “Sister Luna” on Chicago Lakeside Records (AllAboutJazz.com: “Brand's second album is as tastefully cooked as her first” - Jazz Tracks: "The arrangements are both soulful and deeply involved.") Kelly is also included on three excellent jazz compilation CDs.

This new CD includes masterful work by her very worthy accompanists: Kelly Sill on bass and drummer Jon Deitemyer. The wonderful singer Mari Anne Jayme is featured on Kelly's composition "An Old Road'.
