notes
An excellent singer with great songs. - Dave Swarbrick
Quite well done. - Martin Carthy
The most airplay requests [on KABF] go for ...Kelly Franklin. - Rick Clark, Billboard Magazine
Both a beautiful and powerful voice... The melodies are very effective, even haunting with mystery... Each song is a separate epic where nothing is predictable or lame. - Radio for Peace International, Costa Rica
Kelly has a voice that's pure, clean, and unpretentious. An excellent songwriter and musician, not to mention powerful stage presence. It would be a mistake to classify Kelly as just another "chick singer" - she's an artist, who doesn't give a second-best effort. - Mark Arouh, Beaker Street, Magic105 FM
Lines such as 'love lives only in the present tense and quickly dies in self defense' don't grow on trees. - Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
Her guitar playing is excellent - precise, melodic, and interesting. No shapeless folkie strumming here, folks.
- Nightflying Magazine
Kelly Franklin’s powerfully pure voice sails through this labyrinth of songs infused with biting wit, introspection, anger, and sensitivity exploring relationships, creativity and spirituality. Her precise and interesting guitar work and a full band support haunting melodies and unpredictable structures, featuring British fiddle legend Dave Swarbrick of Fairport Convention on four tracks. She’s been compared to Bonnie Raitt, Kate Bush, Joni Mitchell, and even Amy Winehouse. This is a soundtrack, for your road trip, your breakup, your writer’s block, for when you can’t get enough of the music on "Grey’s Anatomy."
Dirty Linen called her music "achingly beautiful.” Kelly Franklin writes about events and emotions which many experience, whether striving for personal growth or laughing about the absurdity of life. Some of her songs deal with issues few are willing to discuss; her first song “War Child” was born on the road when she was 14. She was inspired to choose guitar as her primary instrument by such diverse influences as Alice Cooper, Joni Mitchell, Led Zeppelin and the boy next door. She has shared the stage with Ani DiFranco, the Fabulous Thunderbirds, Robert Earl Keen, Jr., Tom Kimmel, and The House Band, among others.
