Frustration, through persistence, can and usually does lead to satisfaction. But, it is that period of inner turmoil that is perhaps the most satisfying in the long run. This is certainly true with the release of Kelly Hagan's debut album, "Tell the Truth and Run." In which she gives us a candid insight into her innermost thoughts and feelings. It is a far cry from her acoustic beginnings and marks the dawning of a new period in her music.
Hailing from the Berkshires in Western Massachusetts, USA; Kelly has long been associated with the thriving local music scene. However, out of frustration with her previous recordings and a desire to capture an altogether more solid sound on tape, Kelly enlisted the expertise of producer and studio owner, Todd Mack. This combination immediately proved fruitful, with Todd's knowledge of production and arrangements coupled with Kelly's ability as a songwriter, stark demos evolved into lush and revealing songs.
With the release of "Tell the Truth and Run" Hagan explores far more depth, texture and grit than in her previous recordings. Throughout, organs and pianos complement layered vocals, whilst cutting acoustic guitar maintain the drive and pose. In addition, the shuffling and syncopated drums and bass provide the ideal foundation to which the warm, blues ridden guitars melt. Stand out tracks include the epic ballad, "The Lucky One" that sways majestically with grandeur and knowing; the raw, energetic "I Don't Know"; and provacatively shy "Dirty Little Secret."
Tell the Truth and Run" illustrates Hagan's ever-evolving talent as a musician and artist. Through this initial insight her tender lyrics and crafted songs meander effortlessly from folk to blues then to rock and has successfully propelled her sound into a whole new realm.

Very solid
author: Derek Gentile
A superior blend of funk and disarmingly frank lyrics have moved this artist out of the mosh pit of guitar-twanging, Tracy Chapman wannabes and onto her own, original pedestal. A very strong debut that leaves one hoping for more.

Ms. Hagan if amazing! I can not stop listen. If she doesn't make it to the "top", there is something very wrong in the music industry. I look forward to hearing more from her!!
