Kelly Pettit is the offspring of a redneck Aussie bloke and a west coast Canuck. Raised on Vancouver Island, with dual citizenships on opposite sides of the world, Kelly has bounced back and forth and everywhere in between.
After playing in lots of very bad bands as a teenager and dipping in and out of local recording studios, Kelly decided to go take all his possessions (bicycle, backpack, $5, and a guitar), and chase dreams in the land down under. This is where he discovered busking, surfing, beer, women and the art of performing live.
Influenced by Aussie bands and more so Crowded House, Kelly cunningly snuck back stage after one of their concerts and ended up playing guitar with lead singer Neil Finn (Mr. Finn: “you’re playing it wrong, man”).
From there, Kelly started jamming with talented musicians from all walks of life and moving his act indoors with proper sound systems. After time, several other countries, some scrapes and bruises, Kelly ended back in Vancouver to study. During those days, music was always a part time job and songwriting never stopped.
10 years ago Kelly was invited to perform in Japan from a music agency in Tokyo and now he is busier than ever writing music and performing live. To date, he has just released his 4th CD titled “FUEL”, recently won an ultimate band contest, gigged everywhere, written a score, had a song in a soundtrack, in compilation CD’s, reviews in magazines, performed on TV and radio, produced and on more occasions than he cares to mention been a wedding singer.

Here is a more detailed history in chronological order.
*Started playing professionally at the age of 16 performing high school dances and small gigs with local band.
*Recorded first original tune in a studio at age 17 called "Last Forever".
*Winner of Australian “Sydney Songwriters” contest for original song titled “Stand Tall”.
*1997 Recorded first self-titled CD called “Life Through a Windshield”.
*1997 Came to Japan as a trio to perform at a theme park called “Lockhart Castle”.
*1999 Recorded 2nd original CD called “Tuned In”.
*2002 Recorder 3rd original CD called “J-Walking the World.
*Performed live on local TV in Canada several times.
*Radio interviews at many different locations.
*2003 Produced, recorded, played instruments, mixed and mastered CD for Japanese recording artist “Yoshihara Masahiko” titled “Second Youth”.
*Performed in Morioka at Hotel for Rotary Club and events.
*Performed over hundreds of Weddings at Theme Parks, Hotels and other venues.
*Performed at many different festivals and events throughout the years in Japan.
*Hired to write, produce and record 4 children’s songs for Stellar Eikawa Company.
*My original songs were used in an independent filmmaker’s movie called “My Japan”.
* From 2004 until current: Permanent gig at a “hot spot” in Japan called Kusatsu
I have performed several times at the Canadian Embassy in Tokyo and twice for JR (Japanese railway) doing gigs at UENO station near Tokyo.
*Hired to write a Jingle for housing company “Bell Home” which was played on radio.
*Work in Pro Tools and have good knowledge of other computer software such as Adobe Photoshop, Premier Pro, After Effects, and Macromedia Flash etc.
*Speak Japanese fluently.
*2006 Won Artist of the Month (staying on for three months) with Fostex America. www.fostex.com
*Have worked with many well known names such as Cory Churko, Jerry Wong, Craig Northey, Odds, Mike Reno (Loverboy), and Scott Jackson. Google these guys and you should find them (include the word musician in the search).
*September 17th, Kelly Pettit Live at the Numata Bunkakaikan.
September 06: Did the score and theme song for an independent movie called "A Moment With You" by Wong Fu productions. http://www.wongfuproductions.com. These guys rock the independent film field.
October: Wrote the theme song for a Japanese TV pilot called "Hi 5". www.willyshow.com .
October 22 2006, Big Festival at Numata Park called Juo koen.
October 31 2006: Co-wrote a X-mas song for a compilation CD called A Very Vancouver Christmas. It's a charity CD. All proceeds will be donated. The song is Track One and is receiving rave reviews from a wave of people. It's called "Christmas Everyday". Check it out on my homepage link or at http://www.veryvancouverchristmas.com/ .
November 1st: 2006 Release of 4th CD with 15 songs titled, “FUEL”.
November 2007: Kelly Pettit becomes the winner of the Ultimate Band Contest at UBL.com. This contest started over a year ago with over 2000 bands competing. On April 1st Kelly was announced as the the Number 1 artist. OVer $200,000 worth of prices.
July 20th - August 15th. Kelly was touring the West Coast of Canada and parts of the States.
Fuel now accepted and part of the Audiosocket licensing team for TV, movies, and games.

April 2008 - Kelly's Music has been selected to represent background music to Roadtrip Nation. They have placed Kelly's music.
June 2008 - "She's Just Like Summer" won Track of the MONTH on FAME GAMES (www.meermusic.com). This show is affiliated with ABC radio networks with syndications to over 4,400 radio stations in the USA alone. This means HUGE exposure to millions of listeners!

してライブをしたのは高校時代、オリジナルをレコーディングし、販売、コンサートを開く。高校卒業後、オーストラリアに渡りミュージシャンとしての武者修行に励む。演奏ができる所ならいつでも、どこへでも出かけ、好きな音楽に明け暮れた日々を送る。この時の経験が自分のミュージシャンとしての技術もさることながら人間としても成長できたと思う、とは本人の弁。オーストラリア滞在中に自作の曲「スタンド トール」が、「シドニー作詞・作曲家コンテスト」で優勝。一旦カナダに帰国、大学生活を送り、1997年トリオを組んで来日、群馬県沼田市のロックハート城専属のミュージシャンとなる。すっかり日本が気に入り、当時のトリオは解散したものの、沼田に留まり音楽活動を継続中。
これまでに、東京のカナダ大使館、JR上野 駅でコンサート、毎年沼田市で開かれる音楽祭に参加、ロータリークラブのイベント、チャリティーコンサート、ホテル、結婚式、テーマパーク、お祭り等、一年を通して数え切れないほどのライブ活動をしている。
また、毎年カナダに帰国、精力的にコンサート活動をする。帰国の度に、地元のメディアで大きく扱われ、大忙しの「里帰り」である。特に2007年は、先のUBLコンテストの優勝があったので、僅か3週間の間に、ライブを7回、メジャー紙の数社の表紙を飾り、数社の雑誌に特集記事がり、30分のラジオインタビュー（CBC）、テレビのニュースのインタビュー等、まさに目も回るほどの忙しさだった。また、その優勝記念に「UBLコンテスト優勝記念コンサート」と銘打って、9月23日（日）Hotel Bella Vita（ 沼田市）で大々的に行なわれた。

A Truly Magical Surprise

From the first note to the last, Fuel is a CD full of superbly crafted songs that you can't help singing along to. Everything you want is there, the happy pop/county ditty to the good old-fashioned 'what happened?' lost love song. My personal favs? Buy Now Pay later, Make It Hollywood and World is Turning. Having said that - I still find something new on every listen. If you like good music this is an album you won't regret investing your hard earned cash in!

This is definately not the case with Fuel. I listen to the cd start to finish. Every song is awesome! I can't just pick one favourite because all the songs are so great that i love them all! I always feel so much better after listening to the cd no matter what kind of a day i have. I listen to Fuel every single day since receiving the cd. I think everyone should have a copy of Fuel. Fuel Rocks!

Great Music Kelly! I am a bartender in a small tavern in the mountains of northern Virginia. A local musician and friend introduced me to FUEL by just handing me the cd and saying, It's yours. I liked it from the moment I popped it into the Cd player on my long drive home from the tavern that night. I have since listened to it over and over and enjoy it more each time. I have passed it along to my daughter who is 17 and she has turned her friends onto Kelly Pettit as well. Many artist have their own musical page like on Myspace.com where you can listen, read all about them and leave a message. Not all respond to your messages but Kelly Pettit is thought one who does. As a musician myself with my music on the internet I do go around listening to others. After spinning a few of Kelly’s songs on his Myspace page there was no doubt in my mind that I was listening to a great professional and ambition musician and songwriter. Getting to know him abit personally online told me also he is a great guy with his two feets on the ground. Kelly has it all, all the elements to become a “Superstar”. He is a great songwriter and guitarist but first of all in my opinion and the most important, a great singer with a voice that’s unique and only with that and his look’s would be enough to “make it” in the big world of music. When Kelly released his CD “Fuel” I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it, it’s been in my cd player since I got it! Doesn’t that tell you something? Can you remember when you heard some catchy song on the radio with some band you hardly knew and rushed to the next store and bought the album and discovered that the song you heard was the only one out of 12 that was any good? I quess you do but “Fuel” is not that kind of an album. 15 great catchy songs to listen to and you never get bored! A blend of first class Pop and Country music that you can listen to anywhere. A Happy-place vacation!

I could write about each individual song, like the driving rhythm of Someday, the sing-a-long melody of Little Imperfections, or the insightful lyrics of Buy Now Pay Later but I want to write about another aspect of the album. Great music from any era or genre has the ability to transport the listener to another dimension. Kelly's voice, and the songs in FUEL take you away from what is going on in your life for a brief period. It is like a happy-place vacation. Just close your eyes and turn up the volume.

Sunshine on CD

The tempo is perfect for walking with or working out with and you'll find it a constant on my ipod! The song "Little Imperfections" is a strong favorite for me. My 4 year old sings along to "Hard To Breath"! In these dreary days of winter Kelly's music brings a little bit of summer into my world-- driving with the top down!

Prior to buying this CD I was a keen fan and being able to listen at leisure has given me a whole new respect for the man's gift. There's not a song I'd skip through, my surprise favourite being "Hard to breath", now there's a direction I didn't expect this Album to go! Do yourself a favour, don't hesitate. I am so glad I purchased it and makes me think how happy I am to have discovered Kelly Pettit. Love the pop/country feel. Love the inclusion of the hamonica violin, mandolin etc….what more can I say but Kelly is an artist to watch out for. Can’t wait for the next one, oh and while I am in a demanding mood I think a full Kelly Pettit Christmas album is called for……perhaps with some more deliciously evil tracks. All the best!

I love to listen to this CD. I have had it now for about 2 weeks and right from the beginning I really enjoyed hearing it. I find myself singing along and tapping my feet and really enjoy the beat. All the songs are so differant. The variety is great and there is something for everyone. My kids love it too and yell at me from the back seat, " Put On Fuel Mom ". Our favorite songs are Stone After Stone, The World Is Turning, and Talk About It. Kelly is a very talented song writer and performer and this CD proves that. I wish him all the best !

I really enjoy listening to the different styles of music and hearing the variety of instruments used on this cd. I've heard FUEL so many times already, I'm not sure which is my favourite song. Maybe Make it Hollywood or This is Life, or Talk About it or...well, you get the picture! You'd better grab a couple of Fuel cd's for christmas gifts like I did! And, that's my opinion. Love it!

I have followed Kelly's music from the first album and I am impressed each time a new album is released. He is separated from others in this category by his unique, passionate delivery. FUEL is a fun, relatable, feel-good album. It's another great driving, sing along CD.

Featuring collaborations with a host of talented artists, Fuel is a solid collection of 15 tracks guaranteed to please even the harshest critic. Kelly masterfully pulls off perfect country/pop cross over hits with tracks such as “World Is Turning”, “Stone After Stone” – with it’s hint of Celtic influence and wonderful flow - and “Sorry Ass” – showcasing harmonica and steel guitar giving it that “country flair” but with enough pop attitude to garner a slot on any air AC play list. I couldn’t help but get a Bob Dylan feel with “Makes Me Crazy”. Kelly’s vocals, lyrics and overall feel of the song it was easy to picture Kelly standing there ..flipping cue cards a-la Dylan’s Subterranean Homesick Blues video. What has to be THE feel good song of the year, “Little Imperfections” has quickly become a favorite track for me. This sweet little pop song, with a quick tempo, happy upbeat lyrics and a piano adding to the melody will make you smile no matter how bad a day you may have had. Fuel gives you a blend of rockin’ tracks (“Talk About It” and “Someday”) to warm, heartfelt ballads (“Make It Hollywood”, “She’s Just Like Summer” and “Buy Now Pay Later”) to “This Is Life” with a cool jazzy feel. Kelly Pettit Fuel. A GREAT CD
author: Mark ClayOnce apon a time, albums were full of great songs from start to finish. You could just put the needle on at the beginning and walk away and enjoy it from the first note to the last big crash at the end of the last song. Fuel by Kelly Pettit is a throwback to those days before cds with 3 good songs and 7 tracks of mediocre filler became the norm. There are a variety of sounds. Songs like Talk About It and Someday really rock and I find myself cranking up the cd player in the car. They are those great driving songs I love. There are also melodic heartfelt songs like Buy Now Pay Later and Stone After Stone which are sad and warm and wonderful all at the same time. Kelly has included many of his talented friends on Fuel including Jerry Wong who's imput, contribution and production have made the sound very professional, slick and full. Listening in good headphones promises the listener a world of sound and cleverly arranged guitar, mandolin, harmonica and violin are just a few of the many instruments used throughout the journey through these songs. These all compliment the lyrics and vocals which come together with very good writing to make this one of my favorite cds of all time. I highly recommend buying this cd and it can be found right now at CD BABY.
