notes
Wiser and gifted beyond her years, Kelly Snyder lives within her music. Her songs and particularly her voice halt you in your tracks. They embody the raw, drenched emotion that echoes and deafens our daily experiences. She draws you close and immerses you into her thought provoking melodies.
This Pennsylvania native has always yearned to express herself through music, writing early compositions while still in high school. In June 2004 she entered the studio and began work on her debut album, Oxygen, with producer Charles Newman, who has recently worked on the new Magnetic Fields record, i (Nonesuch), and with Quicksand's Walter Schriefels' The Walking Concert (Some Records). This collaboration has coupled an eclectic, innovative feel with ravishing melodies and a unique vocal style.
In Oxygen we are sent drifting and swirling with Kelly's rolling piano parts and captivating voice, while in the hypnotically, tripped out Innocent we are given a candid insight into her emotions; and finally the hauntingly fragile Rescue Me allows you to wallow in its soothing glow. In the convenient pigeon holed world of music, comparisons have already been made to the likes of Fiona Apple, Portishead and Alicia Keys, but Kelly's thought-provoking and rich songs need to be listened to head on, without preconceptions. Her raw, live performances are captivating audiences; and whether it be her and a piano or backed by a full band, the experience is moving and inspired.
Kelly's cinematic and sparse songs balance sensitive soul and dark songwriting with a tarnished and left of center production. This works with stunning effect as ghostly distorted guitars and pedal steels act as the perfect backdrop to her sultry and poignant vocals. Her debut album Oxygen effortlessly glides into your psyche - It is an intriguing glimpse into the musical mind of Kelly Snyder.

ridiculously gorgeous
author: Joone of my biggest pet peeves is lyric-cramming: cramming too many lyrics into a musical space that they just don't fit in. yes, kelly does this sometimes. but i actually DON'T CARE! this album is so ridiculously gorgeous otherwise, that it honestly does not bother me. i've had this album for a long time, and i just wanted to let kelly know that i'm still listening to it. :) your music makes my world a better place, kelly!!! *hugs*

Oxygen teaches you Kelly's soulful lessons. Listen and Learn them!.
author: Marcos M. OchoaBreath in the lesson this budding singer teaches, and you will want to learn more. Oxygen by Kelly Snyder is intellectual, poignant, beautiful, and what music should be for this generation.
Kelly captures the true essence of melancholy.
author: Rebecca CrockerKelly captures the true essence of melancholy in this expressive "rainy day" album. You can practically smell the wet pavement. I recommend drawing the shades and lighting some candles when listening to this one. Well done!
Beautiful vocals along with lyrics that are compelling.
author: LisaThe music pulls you in and seems to cross all age groups. The words are so real, that everone can relate to these songs. I find the CD mesmerizing and calming. In a time where songs seem to not be as meaningful, it's refreshing to listen to music that is modern but reflects the original female singer/songwriters like Carole King and Janis Ian where the lyrics all connect to inner emotions and have a purpose. I listen to it all the time.
