notes
Kelly Wood is a talented young singer / songwriter from New Jersey who at seventeen, showcased at CBGB’s and The Bitter End.
She started playing guitar at thirteen and songwriting shortly after that. With a good foundation in music after years of playing the trumpet in school, Kelly picked it right up. Kelly’s on-stage poise was evident at her first live performance at a theater in Denville NJ for her music school. The sound man dropped Kelly’s only capo and as he franticly searched for it she joked with the sizable audience. Her courage under fire is rooted in her many years of athletics, as a softball pitcher, basketball point guard and setter for the volleyball team.
While still playing Varsity sports in high school Kelly also found time to play out every chance she got often doing her homework in coffee houses and bars waiting for her turn to play. Kelly now hosts her own open mic and is frequently a featured artist. Kelly had her CD “a little bit” release party at the Bitter End after her August showcase. She is a member of The NY Singer Songwriters and ASCAP.
Kelly Wood doesn’t just write music and lyrics, she crafts songs that people enjoy singing along to, and often take with them long after they first hear them. Her songs are honest and natural, telling stories and painting pictures in the listeners mind.
Kelly’s guitar work is complex and intricate; combining finger picking and unique chord patterns adding variety and texture to her songs. Kelly has an amazing voice that is often described as angelic. She doesn’t just sing her songs; she performs them with a confidence and poise far beyond her years. Kelly and her audience tend to bond almost immediately, generating an energy and electricity that she gives back with every note. Her interaction with the audience is relaxed with a mutual love and respect that’s evident by the smiles on everyone’s faces.
