Ken Clark is a composer who has written all of the music for the four musical comedies, MUSIC BY CHOICE, GET IT OFF ME, FLORIDA, and THE KELLY'S TRUCK STOP BOP, produced by Clark and Williams. Also, he has written all the music for four bands currently selling CDs on CD Baby.
His compositions are musical short stories peopled by an odd array of characters confronting the bizarreness of ordinary life. Ken’s music has been compared to Warren Zevon, Randy Newman, Steve Earl, Unknown Hinson and The 13th Floor Elevators.
Joining Ken on this CD are the stylized vocals of Sherry Joyce who as an Athens Georgia musician, has many CD credits. Clark and Joyce also teamed up on several other CDs: "The Kelly's Truck Stop Bop" and "The Drakes" to name a few.
Synopsis of Get It Off Me
Henry and Henrietta Bumgartner are the typical suburban couple, struggling to get by. Their routine lives are lightened only by their playful affection with each other. When the Devil cruises into heaven to propose a wager to test their loyalty, God is convinced his good-hearted young couple will pass the test. The Devil, goaded by his henpecking wife, tries a reverse temptation strategy to destroy Henry and Henrietta by driving them apart. He arranges for Henry to receive a promotion to the "fifth floor" from his overbearing boss, and then has Henry's rich Aunt Edna drop by and give Henry and Henrietta all her money. Act Two begins with Henry and Henrietta in their new circumstances, rich and too busy for each other. The Devil's plan seems to be working. Henry's friend, carefree spirit Eddie, drops by to tempt Henry to abandon his frenetic lifestyle and "see the world." Henrietta's friend Delores tempts Henrietta with an account of the liberation she feels after her recent divorce. Elmer Elkins drops in to bandy backyard theology with Henry. But these people only have the effect of bringing Henry and Henrietta to see how important they are to each other. With the courage of his new insight, Henry stands up to his boss, and then he and Henrietta decide to give Aunt Edna her money back. Relieved, they find their old love and companionship once more. The Devil, defeated, pays a last visit to God, who concludes the play with a gospel-style "sermon" affirming the essential goodness of his creation. The play features fifteen original songs.

Sellout Musical Comedy Is The Brainchild Of AHS Grads
When Ken Clark and John Williams were attending Auburn High School, they didn’t plan to write plays together. But 20 years later they have written two musicals which have been performed at The Human Experience Theatre in Columbus, Ga.
For the last two weekends the play has been a sellout at the 90 seat community theatre. Expectations for this weekend are no different. “We had to turn people away the first weekend,” Clark said. “If people want tickets, I recommend they go ahead and order them.”
Described as a musical comedy, “Get It Off Me” is a modern day twist on the biblical story of Job. The play centers around a married couple, Henry and Henrietta Bumgartner, who are tempted by the devil. “It’s really like a morality play,” Williams said. “It’s a simple and timeless story about love with a lot of laughs.”

THIS COUPLE HAS A DEVIL OF A TIME

The creative team that brought us ‘Music By Choice’ are back with another musical.
The wild and crazy guys from Auburn University are back. Ken Clark and John Williams wrote an original musical called “Music By Choice” that was produced last year at The Human Experience Theater.
T.H.E. Theater is producing the team’s second effort, another musical, “Get It Off Me,” which can be seen this weekend. The play is sold out for Friday, however, tickets for Saturdays show are still available.
While “Music By Choice” was a goofy look at two used car salesmen, this one is different. “It’s the story of Job in the Bible in a modern version musical comedy,” said Williams. “It’s about a young suburban couple that the devil tries to corrupt into temptation.” The couple instead rediscover their love for each other.
A live band provides accompaniment in which Clark and Williams are members. “We really enjoy the live sound for theater,” said Clark. “It transfers the excitement of a live show and adds another texture for the audience to enjoy.”
