Classically trained in piano from a very young age, Kendra Flowers grew up in Delaware and has lived many places before settling in New York City. She picked up the guitar at fifteen, played her first gig by sixteen, and was heralded by The Boston Globe as possessing "riveting, phrase-bending originality [and] razor-sharp lyrics" by the age of twenty-two.
Flowers' most recent recording Severance has been released independently in August 2002, and was produced by Asa Brebner. Severance includes the artistry of Billy Conway and Dana Colley of MORPHINE, as well as several other stellar performers.
Her style is acoustic/electric folk/blues, gritty, honest, and raw. She has been compared to Ani DiFranco, Big Mama Thornton, Martin Sexton, Beth Orton, Eva Cassidy, Joni Mitchell, and Jeff Buckley. Flowers' influences include the above, as well as blues greats (Billie Holiday, Robert Johnson, Stevie Ray Vaughn), and she also turns to the more current Bjork, Beck, Radiohead, Aimee Mann, and Tori Amos for inspiration.
Some of Flowers' noteworthy solo performances include NEMO Boston, Newport Folk Festival (songwriter showcase stage), Newport RI; House of Blues, Cambridge; WJAR-NBC Channel 10 News, Providence; Tower Records, Boston; and residencies at Cambridge's Middle East, Kendall Cafe, and New York's Baggot Inn.
Kendra Flowers has received beaming critical acclaim from varied sources, including The Boston Globe, The Phoenix, Soundcheck Magazine, Contemporary Music Journal, The Noise, and BRTO Holland radio. She has been interviewed by WBOS Boston, WERS 88.9 fm Emerson College, and WJAR-NBC News Channel 10 in Providence.

Amazing to see how Kendra keeps evolving and glossoming and remaining true to herself! Having had the pleasure of sharing the stage with Kendra in the past, I have nothing but sheer admiration and respect for her as an artist and songwriter. This outing confirms she's in for the long haul!
