Album Notes

Surface Tension is a compilation of new music and some older songs that never made it to tape. There is more of a roots quality to these songs than the previous cds and the feel is intimate and stripped down to minimal guitar and voice. I lived in the Arctic for a period where my music seemed to incorporate more and more space. One of my favourite places was a home where I lived in Old Town, Yellowknife, Northwest Territories that looked out onto Great Slave Lake. The house was slowly sinking into the ground due to the fact that it was built on a bed of permafrost. But it had a rustic charm all its own. In the evening, I'd play guitar and write songs while looking out my window at the northern lights or losing myself in the moon on the lake. That was a magical time. The songs on Surface Tension represent the third and perhaps final chapter in a trilogy of albums that capture the space an intimacy of the North.
