Album Notes

‘K’ ensemble
Founding members Jun Kubo and Robert C. Kelly have individually freelanced and performed with the very best in the arenas of Jazz, Classical and Contemporary music - performers, conductors and composers alike. Percussionist Kelly and Flutist Kubo decided to tastefully incorporate their collaborative experiences to create a unique and personal vehicle of expression, that being ‘K’ ensemble.

The instrumentation is combined with Western and Eastern textures – a world beat and jazz percussion setup and flutes of both Western and Eastern derivation. ‘K’ ensemble employs guest artists and instrumentalists albeit cello, double bass, piano, guitar and so forth - apprpopriate to programming and venue..

The level of training, experience and degrees held within is extensive - Juilliard, Hartt School of Music, and New York University. As individual soloists and chamber musicians, freelancing with their work and music, has taken them through the United States, Europe, Canada and Asia.

Influenced by traditional Japanese, Orchestral, Afro-Cuban and Brazilian, with strong infusion of improvisation and Jazz idioms, the integrity and foundation of traditional folklore is respectively in tact while creating a cross cultural mosaic.

The material of the ensemble is both through composed and improvisational, cascading and integrating accompaniment for a diverse canvas of thematic motifs. Thus, this culmination of influences, landscape and sonic palate convey the very elegance and signature sound of ‘K’ ensemble.
