Ken Skeens is a folksinger, guitar player of Appalachian heritage and an award-winning songwriter of original songs whose subjects range from environmental, endangered species, ecology, conservation, preservation of nature, to songs about spirituality, social issues, politics, personal development, and philosophy.
Ken grew up in the mountains of Kentucky where he spent much of his boyhood in the deep woods. His home was in a coal company mining camp-complete with a company store. The gathering place for the local musicians was under the \"big tree\" and that was where, after observation, Ken taught himself to play guitar in a traditional folk style.
Ken\'s singing partner and wife, Leigh Goldsmith, is also a songwriter. Leigh spent her childhood in a small Pennsylvania town where she loved to walk along the country roads. She enjoyed singing harmony with her dad. Her songs convey the universal feelings of heart and home.
They sing at various acoustic venues including the annual Florida Folk Festival, Will McLean Festival, Gamble Rogers Festival, Sierra Club, and other special events as requested.
One of Ken\'s songs, “Old Florida River”, was a part of a radio program that won the Edward R. Murrow Award in 2000. He has also won the Will McLean Songwriting Award in 1992.
Their music is available on two other CDs: Circle of Song and Americana-Down a Barefoot Road.
