Album Notes

Kent Cohea has played with the likes of David Sanborn, Al Jarreau, Bobby McFerrin, B.J.Thomas, Lee Konitz and the Don Ellis Big Band. Being educated at Berklee School of Music in Boston Mass. and learning from Joe Henderson in San Fransico, where he presently lives, has given Cohea a wide range of musical expression within the standard jazz genre. On this CD he and his long time friend and piano player Alan Steger have put together a wonderful listening experience.

He says of this CD."Alan and I have been playing music together for over twenty-five years and as you know, when you have had a relationship for that long you get to know the other person pretty well. When Alan and I play there are times when we become one voice. We can actually anticipate each other's moves. Listen closely to "All Through the Day" and The Best Thing For You Is Me". Can you hear our dance? The goal of this CD was to make music that was creative but at the same time sensitive and yes, romantic. I think I have."
All but two tunes on this CD were done in the first complete take. This gives it the feeling of a live performance, with all the urgency that Jazz is meant to have. Not the canned, overdubbed, sterile feeling so many CD's have these days. Because Jazz, at it's best, is like life. We kind of make it up as we go along. But if the artistry and expertise and heart are there,it turns out to be more than satisfying and can be a beautiful experience. It can put you "In A Sentimental Mood". Enjoy.

A Five Star album

In this CD Kent provides more then ample evidence of his complete mastery of the tenor saxophone and the 'West Coast' tenor sound. He demonstrates, in no uncertain terms, exactly what can be done with just a minimum of rhythm accompanyment. The piano comp is superbly subdued so as not to subtract - or detract - from the original intent, which is to showcase Kent's huge talents. In that, they have succeeded in spades. This is simply a wonderful album.

A true world-class talent!! Tone, sensitivity, technique, tasteful song selection-- what more could you ask for? Upper Ca. is lucky to have these guys. Shows you don't have to have a trio, quartet or more to make a memorable CD. I would advise ordering extra copies for your friends that appreciate great music- I am!!
