Album Notes

Howdy Folks.

My name's Kent Hodgin and Wood and Stone is my debut CD. I thought I'd break the rules here a bit and just write you a simple letter telling you about my music....after all, you might as well hear straight from me about the songs - I wrote 'em.

This CD is all country - it's definitely in the "new" modern country variety, with many of the songs traditional in nature. There are also some great Gospel songs that will sound like mainstream "radio" country, but have a great Gospel message woven into their core.
I've tried real hard to put my heart into each of these original tunes -

I've always wanted to write music that means something - that has a purpose. If a song can make you cry or laugh or yell 'yee-haw', then it's a good song. It's gotta have that you-know-what that makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up, or gives you that lump in your throat or tear in your eye...or makes you want to rip up that gravel road with your old truck and kick up dust for a quarter mile...

Some of my favorite songs are the ones that tell a story, or take you to a place where the lyrics are so real you can almost swear you were "there" and could taste the dust from that old road, or breathe in the smell of the fresh cut hay after that summer rain...

Here are a few promises I can make to you about this CD.

* It's got some great ballads - "Forever More" is a song my wife walked down the aisle to on our wedding day. Maybe it'll become your wedding song...
* If you like hot guitar pickin' - check out "The Miracle Ride" and "Amazing Grace"....some absolutely awesome steel guitar and fiddle too...
* Like a song with a story and a great message? "The Greatest Sacrifice" is a song about 4 of Canada's finest law enforcement officers whose lives were tragically taken in March of this year. This song is a tribute to them.
* Every song has a message of hope and faith woven into its foundation.

It's a strange thing telling prospective buyers how good you are - I'd rather let the songs speak for themselves. It may be of interest to some folks that many of my songs have made the jump to Canadian radio rather quickly, and that I'll be performing at the Canadian Country Music Associations biggest event of the year in Calgary at a songwriters showcase....that's a pretty big deal for a little independent guy like me, who only started seriously into the music industry in July of 2005...
