Album Notes

This is my first CD and I want to truly thank all the good people who participated in its production. Many thanks to the multi-talented Tom Eure who produced this CD. I would say that my music is somewhere between Country and Americana. I hope you enjoy it.

When I first heard Ken Widis (over thirty years ago), I knew instantly that his was a special voice. We called him “Dylan” in those days, as much for his curly hair as for his ability to do all three of his nick-namesake’s singing styles. His own songs were much more gentle, more accessible, then the versions he did of Dylan’s powerful often bitter classics. I always told him he could be a star as the “next Dylan” (like so many others have tried to be) but his true artistic nature was softer and simpler; more introspective and “romantic” in the original definition of the word. Ken would probably be embarrassed by all this reminiscing. It’s been almost twenty years since I’ve heard him sing. Then a mutual friend told me that Ken had a recording out. So I bought it and listened… And it all came back. The liquid flow of his phrasing, the simple rhymes that tell so much, they were all there. It took me back through those thirty years. This music evokes Emotion; with a capital E, and isn’t that what music is supposed to do? The rock and roll parody that was Conrad Birdy had it right when he sang “you’ve got to be sincere.” American music over the last fifty years can be divided between the real and the affected. Everything here is really sincere. Ken Widis is simply the best unknown singer/songwriter in America today.
