Album Notes

"...so much emotion in her music..." Ralph Novak, Sr. Editor, PEOPLE Magazine

"(THIS PART OF THE JOURNEY) is an album extremely well received by listeners. (It) continues Kerri's legacy of stylish, evocative solo piano recordings. Showcasing both her gently flowing original compositions and passionate, sincere performance style, the somewhat mysteriously titled album is soon revealed as a series of personal reflections. Track listings are presented as musical journal entries, based on individual experience, yet universal in emotion. Conveying a genuine warmth, Kerri creates layers of melody and understated arrangements that inspire repeated listening and recommendations to all who love beautiful instrumental music." CRITICS CHOICE

"When all the parts fit as well as they do here, the end result is extraordinary. Kerri Sherwood's THIS PART OF THE JOURNEY is a breath of fresh air." ALL MUSIC GUIDE

GOLDEN-VOICED SONGWRITER AND PIANIST KERRI SHERWOOD

Savvy Sherwood's marketing vision is as fresh as her sound

Vocalist, pianist and songwriter Kerri Sherwood has been gently but steadily infiltrating the music industry since her well-received 1995 debut, Released from the Heart. As the savvy top executive at her own SISU Music Productions, Inc., she has some snappy marketing approaches that are major-label worthy. But even more importantly, her gorgeous new single, "Slow Dance," glided in as the No. 2 most added song its first week at AC radio - poised just behind Celine Dion and a step ahead of Faith Hill, Train and Rod Stewart.
"The song is a moving hug," says the North Shore Long Island native and mother of two, who runs her record company out of Kenosha, WI.
"Slow Dance" is the captivating new single from Yamaha artist Sherwood's eighth album, As Sure as The Sun, which was recorded in Nashville and produced by Cliff Downs (Wynonna Judd, Mark Douthit). Although her seven previous releases have all been instrumentals (with only three vocal compositions), her golden voice parts the clouds for listeners, music critics and retail buyers alike.
People magazine senior editor Ralph Novak observes, "...so much emotion in her music..." and trade publication FMQB AC Director Mark LaSpina states, "Kerri Sherwood has a passion for making wonderful music, and a gift for creating timeless lyrics that come from the heart."
The accolades are endless, but for the former secondary public school music teacher, the most special acknowledgements are those from listeners - many of them - who feel intensely enough about As Sure as the Sun and the rest of her prolific catalogue to send emails and letters to express what her songs mean to them.
"It's so gratifying to think that in today's busy world, people would take the time to actually sit down and write to me," says Sherwood.
As Sure as the Sun is a panacea that melts away job loss, love loss, war and daily stress for listeners, and the claims to this effect assure her that she is definitely doing her job.
"People are choosing to make this music a part of their lives," Sherwood enthuses, and hopes that "In a Split Second," another song from As Sure as the Sun, will be a rallying message of hope for The Breast Cancer 3-Days, the Susan G. Komen Foundation and its most prominent advocate, Oprah Winfrey. Sherwood wrote the song for a friend who was diagnosed with the disease, and has a poignant story to share about the inspiration behind it, but eloquently points out, "The song generalizes to so many situations in life. There are a million ways that things change in a split second."
As SISU's top brass, she is constantly devising marketing innovations to tie in her relevant music with products and services. Much more than a revenue-generating vehicle for all concerned, Sherwood's songs are powerful healers, in the true sense of the words. They can be heard in day spas and birthing rooms, bedrooms and living rooms. Pharmaceutical companies are considering Sherwood CD's as a promotional companion to their products. And wouldn't automotive retailers score big points with consumers if they had This Part of the Journey loaded in the CD player for test drives and purchases?
Beyond the vast personal and commercial potential that As Sure as the Sun offers, Sherwood describes it as "the intensity of living, in which relationships are the most important. The place I went to for this album is my heart."
And in hearing the music and talking with Sherwood, there's no place warmer.
