Dan Kerwin Biography

Dan Kerwin, not only a Performing Singer/ Songwriter, but a story in progress. Born on the Gold Coast on the East Coast of Australia, grew up in the country. With his two elder brothers and parents Marie and David, had moved to the 'Wheat Town" of Dalby, Queensland in 1977, age two. Living in the country suited Dan just fine, it was imprinted on him and became a way of life.

Being such a 'Country Boy' and deep thinker for someone so young, I guess it was no surprise that he quickly gravitated toward Country Music. Its hard to say exactly when Dan first started singing but had 'cut' his first vocal track on a home recording system, aged three. In 1983, Dan's family had moved to a 31acre farm of their own in the hill country of South East Queensland, which was to have a huge affect on his musical direction. By the end of high school Dan's Singer/ Songwriter Mother had started recording her material and formed a band. Dan would attend most of the gigs and it was around this time that he had started taking his guitar skills more seriously and began writing his own material. Strongly influenced by the Nashville sound and great artists like Randy Travis, Garth Brooks and Clint Black, Dan's attitude towards music transformed from 'Hobby' to 'Passion', Dan made his debut live performance at the launch of his Mother's second album in 1991. He sang accompanied only by a borrowed acoustic guitar and sang two Garth Brooks' and a Jim Reeves song. The response could not have been predicted and remains one of Dan's favorite memories. Autograph's, pictures in two local papers and a whole lot of "Where did you come from?"

Since then Dan has been listening, learning, writing, performing and building on his talents.
2001, saw Dan take second place in the country rock section of the Toyota Music Muster Talent search. Which is the biggest talent search competition in Australia. Also Dan's introduction to recording, a low budget, self funded project containing eleven tracks, ten written by Dan, which has gone onto receive airplay on approximately 140 stations around Australia. Dan was serving a four contract in the Army at this time.

While in the Army, Dan worked as a solo entertainer on his time off. Once out of the service, Dan went on to pursue his passion for music full time. Call it Talent, Luck or determination, Dan has sustained a living performing and writing on a self promoted basis and this remains his sole occupation.

In early 2003, things for Dan started to really gain momentum when he sent a handful of demo CD's to some Nashville producers, in hopes of some feed back. He received some very good responses and came to Nashville to talk with them. It was on this trip that Dan had met with Producer Darran Smith (the Dance Hall Doctor's) and made an agreement to record an Album with him. Dan returned in October and cut the tracks with Darran and Producer/ Engineer Jim Lightman. Using members of Tim McGraw's 'Dance Hall Doctors' and other top Nashville musicians, The result? 'Outstanding!' The album, "LIVE FROM AMERICA" is ready for release and is the first of hopefully many successful and memorable records from this escalating artist, Dan Kerwin.

These five stars are not earned lightly. Dan has brought independent style and an individual voice together in a superb, highly descriptive album. I was particularly caught by "4 of us" and "Man Down", but have listened several times to the CD since it arrived. It only takes a short preview to see this is a must-have CD. Recommended.
