"I Met The Devil" embraces the deliciousness of being bad and the cost to one's soul in a light-hearted way. Doing things and wanting things you know you shouldn't—well, just blame the Devil! This song hearkens back to the jazz clubs, speakeasies, and down-and-dirty musette clubs of an earlier era. Its jaunty beat invokes clapping and foot-stomping, with a sexy slowed-down aside in the middle for a little extra enticement.
"I said to that devil: Just you go away
I said you've got to leave,
But won't you stay here one more day"
Friends of lovemando & Mrs. Hobbs offered their home in Topanga for the duo to record. High ceilings, wood beams, artifacts from around the world, and windows looking out into the lushness of trees found in this bohemian enclave became the backdrop and soundscape for several of their earliest recordings—you'll even hear a neighbor's rooster crow in this tune!
This track can also be found on a compilation CD packaged with the 2012 Accordion Babe Pinup Calendar, in which Mrs. Hobbs is Miss January.
