notes
words like legend and master are only used to describe an artist who has stood the test of time. kevin borich is undoubtedly one of the chosen few.
with a professional career spanning 30 years, kevin borich has done it all. beginning with the la- de- das in new zealand, writing the classic hit "gonna see my babytonight", to his kevin borich express and the party boys, kevin has performed at some of the biggest rock events australia has seen.
the rockarenas in the 70s with 60,000 people, featuring fleetwood mac, santana (with whom he was invited onstage to play with) and the little river band, new years eves at the sydney opera house with 170,000 people, telecast live, nationally and internationally to japan, at that time, a first! numerous support shows for international acts, elton john, status quo, jeff beck and buddy guy to name a few! from your local to the biggest, kevin has carved out a revered reputation in the australian music industry, performing his music with a youthful exuberance, - giving extra meaning to the word longevity.
the energy that is generated at a borich show leaves his audience pleading for more, as seen at the eastcoast blues music festival - byron bay 97, where kevin was stopped by the stage manager from doing an encore and subsequently created five minutes of standing ovation and then disapproving boo's. Kevin starred in the hugely successful 18 'Sold Out' Australia wide 'Long Way To The Top' 2002 arena concerts. 2003 and Kevin, alongside Tony Joe White, John Mayall and Ray Charles (in that order) performed the Melbourne International Music & Blues Festival. In recognition of Kevins contribution to Australian music and blues culture he was inducted into the Australian Blues Foundation Hall of Fame.
kevin has played and recorded with artists such as renee geyer "blues license" - dutch tilders "the blues had a baby"- richard clapton "prussian blue". jammed with carlos santana on two of his tours, also with bo didley richie blackmore (deep purple), ron wood (rolling stones), john mayall, taj mahal, living colour, joe walsh and the party boys, of which kevin was a founding member. overseas tours and tours with jimmy barnes, mark hunter, renee geyer have added spice to his career.
due to popular demand, kevin has produced and released a double live cd "live at the big kahuna". on it is shown kevin's versatile guitar style, incorporating slide on his 1930's national steel guitar and selection of electric guitars. "heart starter" is kevin's latest independently produced and released cd - strong powerful and sensitive playing from guys who have tons of cred, featuring on 2 tracks, his son lucius borich (drums).
(who else can make the earth move?)
Kevin Borich is a magnificent musician ... and always has been.
A guitarist's guitarist with a solid grounding in the blues who dispenses licks with a fiery passion. A generation of sixties and seventies air guitarists grew up with the Borich treatment of All Along The Watchtower and the affection for this man who becomes as one with his guitar has never left them.
Over his long career there has been an inspiring honesty and dedication about Kevin; he's remained true to his understanding of rock's founding principles and his commitment to live performance. When he plugs in he roars and nobody in the room is left unaffected.Though a Kiwi Kevin is a mainstay of Oz Rock and it would be hard to imagine it without him.
I think he was born to play.
