Turn up volume, this is acoustic electricity!
Canadian guitar player Kevin Cook is a long, lean song writing machine. You see words like mesmerizing and authentic pop up in the reviews. His third indie disc Western Union is a collection of eleven original songs stripped down to the bare essentials. Recorded mostly live in the studio, this country blues flavored disc has a big acoustic sound. From the gospel blues groove of Revelation Blues to the ragtime bounce of Lemon Grove to the more traditional country bluegrass strains of Cora-Mae and Early Girl, Kevin Cook has come up with a sound that is unmistakably his own. He says, "I went back and listened to some of my early influences when I was writing this album, people like JJ Cale, Doc Watson, Norman Blake and Reverend Gary Davis."
