notes
"I've worked with these wonderful musicians since 1992. The title track 'What Survives' was inspired by a Rainer Maria Rilke poem that I love. There is a bit of electronic effects (provided by my trusty SonyMP5 Multi- Effects unit) which I utilize in processing the piano on some of the tracks. Along with a number of arrangements of classical works and abstractions of some of my favorite music that has 'Survived' the test of time. I hope you enjoy it!"
"..... a jolt of joy!"
~ The New York Times
"He's all-encompassing; phenomenally so!"
~ John Scofield/Universal Recording Artist
".....Exquisite at every turn."
~ Musician Magazine
"I've never met a musician who is as perfect in their approach to improvisation. I've learned a lot working with him."
~ Nicholas Payton

author: bradA beautiful record. Kevin Hays is a true original. Everything he place has a deep intelligence and swing. This record showcases his own compositions. Doug Weiss and Bill Steward on bass and drums are in top form. Highly recommended.
