notes
Singer/guitarist Kevin Lee is still performing at full power on the aptly titled Flip The Switch. An experienced power pop composer, he packs each of these 10 songs with hooks, and he has the pipes to put them across. Former Thrift Store Halo guitarist Brent Seatter helps fuel the energetic tracks like “Built To Burn” and “She’s On Fire.” “Won’t Shed A Tear,” one of Lee’s better slow tunes, recalls Electric Light Orchestra. Chicago-based singer-songwriter KEVIN LEE checks back in with his faithful with the release of his third solo CD “Flip The Switch” on Sigus Records. The disc is another leg of Lee’s lifetime journey through the land of melodic pop/rock and showcases his songwriting and vocal talents to great effect. Lee’s sound is anchored in the last 30 years of pop songwriting and expanded by his unchecked rock and roll influence, creating music with ties to its classic past as well as a modern rock edge. Co-produced with Josh Shapera, “Flip The Switch” leans more heavily on the rock side of Lee’s musical personality than his past efforts, which were a bit more pop-influenced, and delivers a satisfying blast of melody and unbridled rock energy. Songs like “Built To Burn”, “Save Me Tonight”, and the radio-ready “All I Want” show Lee at the top of his artistic and commercial game.
Savvy listeners will remember Lee from his years as Kevin Lee and the Lonesome City Kings. After signing with MCA, the group worked with Grammy-winning producer Frank Fillipetti (Kiss, Korn, Foreigner) and producer Don Dixon (REM, Smithereens) on the album “Restless” and played live with acts like Pearl Jam and Matthew Sweet. Since that time, Lee has established himself as a solo artist with his releases “Walk A Mile In My Shoes” in 1998, “Loaded” in 2002, and now “Flip The Switch” in 2006. Lee is also no stranger to the stage and continues to play around the Midwest with his backing band.
KEVIN LEE is an experienced rock musician and songwriter with the power to craft timeless music that appeals equally to the head as well as the heart. “Flip The Switch” is Lee’s strongest effort to date and is the most fully realized version of his musical vision to hit the streets. Radio, retail, and rock fans will all find something to like here. Lee is a proven performer at the national level of the music industry and it is only a matter of time before “Flip The Switch” is blasting out of radios all over the world.

Every tune Kevin is blasting out heart felt rock melodies while the catchy beat grabs you and keeps you singing along.
Quality Tunes
author: RexOne way to tell if a tune is well written is to strip away the instrumentation. I heard Kevin Lee on the Black Knight and Squire G show performing songs from Flip the Switch with just guitar and voice, and the craftmanship was immediately apparent. Flip the Switch is full of what Kevin calls "big hooks and chunky guitars" and is a marvelous good time rock n' roll CD.
Unique power pop !
author: Laura T Lynch of Kweevak.comThe album is guitar based, melodic, modern pop-rock. Kevin's songs have infectious hooks in arrangements that vary in speed and style. Kevin has a voice that is easy on the ears and most of his lyrics are crisp and clear. The CD opens strong with the sizzling "Built To Burn". It features an up-beat tempo with driving guitars and vocals. "Mr. Misery" combines smooth singing with edgy instrumentation and hard-hitting guitar leads. Also of note are the potential anthem "Save Me Tonight" and the radio-ready "All I Want". Kevin has crafted his own unique brand of power-pop that is sure to generate a buzz!
Flip the Switch hits the mark
author: ChristopherKevin demonstrates once again why he's one of rocks most underrated talents. I'm still humming Built to Burn and Hollywod Trash. SO glad I got this.
Flip The Switch = Off The Hook!!!!!
author: ChewyThe first time I played this disc, my jaw hit the floor. Every single tune on this disc has a hook, a riff, a melody (or all 3) that just grabs you & does not let go. Being an ex Chi-town boy myself, I knew Kevin was a talented musician. But this disc is a non-stop, Rockin' affair. These are some of the best songs I've heard written by Kevin & his voice is in excellent form. Plus, the rhythm section is tighter then a gnats ass & lead guitarist Brent Seatter just rips!! Buy this disc so you can find out why Kevin (and da' boyzz)are a GREAT Rock band & to get a GREAT example of the kind of players & songwriters that Chicago has to offer.
