Close to something beautiful, close to something real.
author: Ricardo Zarate Flores
Why it took so long to get ‘Close to something beautiful’? I kept asking the same question over and over again while I was listening the fourteen songs of the album by Kevin Renick and friends. What an incredible experience it is. As many others Kevin Renick’s fans, I knew about him thanks to ‘Up in the Air’, a song included in Jason Reitman’s film of the same name. To me ‘Up in the Air’ was (and still) a raw song about uncertainty and hope, a poetic approach of the immense possibilities and impossibilities in life. At that time, I haven’t even seen the film, but the song grasp me so intensely I couldn’t waste any minute and I was luckily enough to get in touch directly with Kevin Renick, the source of the feeling. ‘Close to something beautiful’. Fourteen songs. A wide spectrum of emotions, rhythms, supported with plainspoken lyrics that touches your heart. Thank you Kevin Renick. Greetings from Mexico.

How many artists do we have today who sing or play from the heart? Hardly any. But when you hear Kevin sing, he really speaks to you. You feel moved and comforted by his words. They have a promise of hope and a dream about the future. His song "Up in the air" is already my favorite and the man seems determined to churn out many more fantastic songs like it. I live all the way over to the other side of the world, in India, and his music has found ways to reach people even here. Truly, music knows no boundaries or restrictions. If you haven't still, definitely get his album today and you will fall in love with his beautiful music and soothing voice. Thanks.

He's No Longer Up in the Air

Kevin Renick's lyrics are sometimes wistful, often playful, and always thoughtful and heartfelt. And the music is catchy. For instance, I couldn't get "The Sorry Song's" simple tune out of my head for two hours. The breadth of his interests also impressed me: rock, folk, a children's song, a spoken-word poem....My favorite songs on this album are "Close to Something Beautiful," "The Bottom," "Where Am I Going?" and "Read a Book."

Something Beautiful
author: Al K Hall
This CD should not be called "Close To Something Beautiful" because it IS something beautiful.
i discovered Kevin in the end titles of the film "Up In The Air", when he performed the song of the same name. i interviewed him for my website [http://pjensi.wordpress.com/2010/05/23/reruns-the-booze-talkin-my-exclusive-interview-with-kevin-renick/] and discovered more than a songster. i found a sincere, honest, fun and intelligent poet. And that's what i love most about this CD: it's totally Kevin, which means it's sincere, honest, fun and intelligent.
Kev is a talented songwriter and gifted at finding the perfect music to accompany his lyrics. There are a couple standout tunes on this CD like "The Sorry Song" (beautiful lyrics and something every guy has felt all the time), and "Where Am I Going" (the lead off track) paired with "Think Twice About It" which are some rockin' folk tunes.
If you're looking for a nice mix of Neil Young and James Blunt, you've come to the right place. Download this puppy.
