notes

Kevin Hubbard, a Boston-based classical guitarist, has studied his craft in Spain with the world-renowned virtuoso Eliot Fisk.

Mr. Hubbard's debut recording, entitled "Aspirations," has made the playlists of over 60 classical radio stations throughout the USA and Canada and received a very favorable review in the March 2005 issue of 20th Century Guitar magazine. It features the music of 13 composers from Europe and Latin America, including J.S. Bach, Villa-Lobos, Sor, and Giuliani. The disc concludes with the title track, a Hubbard original, which reflects the artist's background in playing such other styles as folk, jazz and rock.

Relaxing and serene, "Aspirations" is a must for all. It will not only serve as a fine addition to the classical connoisseur's collection, but is also the perfect choice for the music fan who wishes to expand his or her listening repertoire into the wondrous realm of Spanish-style guitar music.

  • Precision and clarity with the classic repertoire, but done with a refreshing
author: Judge Jack F. Smith, Denver, CO

I met Kevin on a recent trip to Iceland - not exactly a noted Spanish guitar venue. We became friends, and I bought his "Aspirations" CD. I was astonished and rewarded. The most endearing quality of the CD is how the familiar repertoire is presented with such clarity and precision, but with the addition of an understated newness and reverence. There is no "flash", just respectful understanding of each composer's piece. It is clear Kevin loves the music, and has the mastery of his instrument to convey that love to his listeners. Thanks, Kevin.
