GENETICALLY MODIFIED MUSIC...
Splice a strand of chain-gang melody into a breakbeat sequence.
Insert square-dance calls into the code of some collaged beats and add a banjo.
Take the allelujah-gene from a 17th-century choral song and place it into the DNA of dancehall reggae.

Like Chemical Bros. meeting 'O Brother'
author: The Calgary Herald
What if Jamaican dub music had been invented in the 17th century by European choral singers? Or if folk musicians a century ago had created music on laptops, instead of banjos? (It's like the Chemical Bros. meeting the 'O Brother' soundtrack.) K.I.A. says he creates music as a music lover and he's satisfying his own curiosity when he asks questions such as, what if the Major Tom character from David Bowie's Space Oddity and Ashes to Ashes had a wife who missed him as badly as he missed her? So he penned his song, Mrs. Tom, from the perspective of the fictitious astronaut's lonely wife. Interesting music which sounds contemporary, but of no particular era, is throughout the disc, like 'Almighty Beat', in which there's a chain-gang chant dispersed with new lyrics and very obviously current music; and 'E-yeah' which sounds like Lisa Gerrard (from Dead Can Dance) if she went electronic. All this has resulted in the former Calgarian K.I.A.'s latest release, Adieu Shinjuku Zulu, is generating interest around the world.
