GARAGE SALE - BIG TIME

ALBUM REVIEWS:

Donnie and Marian Lochrie are back with their first full length offering. Twelve songs that clock in at just over 45 minutes. First up, All Night Long rocks with the best of them but the second track Honey Bee is the standout single if I ever heard one, falling somewhere between the White Stripes and the 5,6,7,8's. This song is so catchy you'll need an antibiotic just to get over it. Treat Me Right has a slow, smooth Lucinda Williams groove to it that kinda seeps into your brain like wine into a white cotton shirt. You just know it won't come out. Big Waves has a KISS guitar riff surfing in a New York Dolls ocean of longing for love lyrics. Wastin' Time sounds like a stripped down Redneck Greece with rev'ed up backing vocals and rounding the whole package out are two Christmas songs just in time for the holidays, Hopin' For Snow and Christmas Is Comin'. A great cd at a garage sale price. For fans of Southern Culture On The Skids, The Muffs, The White Stripes and Sit n' Spin. By Richard Oliver - Ear Candy Magazine

Either this is the most calculated disc in the annals of rock history or it's the real thing, and from the amateur packaging and recording I'm inclined to think the latter. Plus, it's difficult to fake this kind of inspired enthusiasm. Kick in the Eye is a Mission duo having so much fun playing blues-rock that it makes the White Stripes seem like an invention by Swedish songwriters living in Florida. Holding the rootsy garage sale are Donnie and Marian Lochrie, who once fronted Vancouver pop band BMX and who trade off vocals or harmonize on the very basic, and I mean basic, songs. But basic doesn't mean bad, certainly not in this case, where it translates to a respect for the easy magic of guitar, rhythm, voice, and melody. Personally, I found the disc thoroughly entertaining, especially when Marian lets loose with a sexy growl, as on All Night Long. By Shawn Conner - The Georgia Straight

NOTE: All Kick in the Eye CDs come in eco-friendly packaging, which is recyclable, biodegradeable, and free from plastic trays.

Happy music

This is feel good music .... and why not have some fun? Kick in the Eye is what you would get if the Beach Boys did Beatles songs, used Neil Diamond's guitar and found the cutest female voice they could find to charm your socks off.
