Biography

“The Scotia Mix (Vol. I)”

The new Scotia Mix (Vol. I) compact disc release (Kicksta Music Group) is a collective representation of some of the best new Hip Hop and R&B recording artists from Nova Scotia, Canada. This release has consistently maintained a Top Ten presence in Canada's college music charts. Artists Papa Grand, Jamie Sparks, Gilbert “Duby” Downey, Dimples, Game Spittaz, Young Squad, Teardrop and The Empire are all native Nova Scotian artists, with the exception of guest artist Big Brotha who hails from Lake Charles, Louisiana.

The overall artistry sound on the Scotia Mix (Vol. I) release is reminiscent of current top artists such as; Ne-Yo, Glen Lewis, Kanye West, and Three Six Mafia. It both effectively and successfully merges veteran and new artists.

For some time, great Urban music talent has existed within the Maritime Provinces, however, it has tended to be overshadowed by more predominant genres. This release is seen as a breakthrough in affecting an alternative change within the traditional status quo environment.

THE ARTISTS:
Dimples is primed for the spotlight. Growing up on Gospel hymns, she has performed her R&B formula to wide audiences and has generated some worthy attention. She caught the attention of Kicksta Music Group A&R after hearing her track “There You Go”.

Duby smoothly and confidently delivers his “More Than A Friend” track with the elements of power and passion.
The Empire - incorporates skillful lyricism in irresistible Hip Hop on “Get Naughty,” which also features R&B sensation Kaleb Simmonds.
Game Spittaz - From North Preston comes this Hip Hop act capitalizing on its advance success with its previously released mix tapes.
Jamie Sparks - A multiple-selling and major award-winning artist whose “Fun Tonight” release yielded four videos, contributes the “Gonna Get Down” track, which has already won an ECMA for Urban Single Recording of the Year.
Papa Grand - An experienced artist on both the mic and the screen. As an actor he is best known as a cast member of the hit series “Trailer Park Boys”. As a rapper he has informed, thought-provoking lyrics and a unique delivery.
Young Squad, & Teardrop – These newcomers round out this highly charged roster with their gritty sound belying their youth.
Big Brotha – Originally from Philadelphia, PA and now residing in New Orleans, LA presents the track, “Chill.”
