Press quote:
"Kiddus Music, the label behind „Vocal Winshu Vol. 1“, is a roots-oriented reggae label from Montreuil in France. Why I'm telling you this in detail is because I was surprised when I listened to this CD for the first time.
Why? Because it's far away from the usual French releases that I listen to. France is the stronghold of modern European dub, especially steppers, as you surely know. But „Vocal Winshu“ is far away from sounding European.
In fact, if I wouldn't have known it before, I would have bet, this CD is a Jamaican release. You get 13 tough roots tunes, all vocal (I really hope there will be dub versions available, whether as an add-on release or as MP3 downloads on their website).
Featured artists are (amongst several others) Earl 16, Tristan Palmer, Tony Tuff and Sugar Minott (with the outstanding opener „Jah No Go“, a tune which immediately catches the listener). The pace of the tunes is more laid-back and while the cover says the CD contains „tunes to rock your dancing shoes“, I wouldn't think of dancing to this record. In fact, I feel more like lying down on the sofa and relax to the music
I admit that I don't know who's behind the riddims. I suppose it's Abisha, the leader of the project. As I haven't recognized any of the riddims, I furthermore suppose they are selfmade. That's good because it's unique. And surely, it's some serious roots vibe that is presented here. Apart from the aforementioned „Jah No Go“, I have to name „Do The Right Thing“ feat. Testifi which has a really hooking vocal part and a truely deep riddim. And the third tune I want to recommend is Tony Tuff's „Rock On“. These are definitely the best tracks of the record.
Apart from that, I would say that this CD is a serious roots compilation and every roots fan should definitely check out this record. Some fresh, modern roots in here. Dubheads and steppers however won't find something for them on here." Dubflash.com
