"Attention-deficit jazz with a dash of swing, rock and lyrical theatrics make up the twisted world of Montreal’s Kids Eat Crayons. Piano, horns and vocalist J. Phil Major lead the charge in this study of humour through music. Opener “Eat It or Wear It” is sonic coffee that’s decaf and speed all in one. The suit-and-tie lounging of “You Are All Dead to Me” is mauled by distorted guitar, and saxophones duke it out for supremacy over a rabid mob of piano, guitar and vocals on “Truck Date.” Fans of Mr. Bungle’s California will appreciate the jackknifing into metal mayhem, but the Kids stand on their own with their sound. 8.5/10"
(Lateef Martin, Montreal Mirror)
"Si ce qui nous frappe d'abord est la justesse des vocaux de J. Phil Major, [...] on est ensuite saisis de voir à quel point les musiciens sont aussi virtuoses que visionnaires. En dépit des changements brusques et d'un apparent chaos, les compositions écrites de main de maître vont toujours là où elles doivent aller et témoignent d'une science musicale qui ne laisse rien au hasard. [...] Obnubilant et déroutant."
(Francois-Samuel Fortin, Impact Campus)
"Anyone sick of pretentious indie-isms would revel in the Frank Zappa-meets-John-Zorn approach of the Kids. [...] For me it was refreshing. I had forgotten that sheer, unbridled energy can knock me on my face just as much as delicious subtleness and sophistication. Kids Eat Crayons is a slap in the face to the indie wimps, but a tasteful one nonetheless."
(Adam Kinner The Montreal Gazette)
"Highly original" (progmontreal.com)
"For all of you Zappa heads out there who don’t mind a touch of over-the-top Steely Dan arrangements mixed with that Mike Patton-esque flavour of dementia [...] check out Kids Eat Crayons."
(Johnson Cummins - Bionic, ex-Doughboys)
"Kids Eat Crayons have shown that there's new music in Montreal that doesn't sound like the same old indie-pop fluff."
(Laura Tindal, McGill Tribune)
"Don't get me started on this band; contrary to their name, they are not appropriate for children. I don't recommend them."
(Earth Muffin, earthmuffininillinois.blogspot.com. Earth Muffin loves "yoga, and the Rolling Stones.")
