According to the Jazz Journal International, Kiku Collins "plays the trumpet like a twenty-first century Miles Davis". This is one awesome album. I have heard lots and lots of so-called "smooth-jazz) albums, please be advised this is NOT such an album. The sound Kiku has on her trumpet is extraordinary, it's Big, Bold and Beautiful. This one will stick to you for sure!! Fantastic recording, Fantastic compositions, First rate musicianship...

A Star is born and her name is Kiku Collins. Following up on her first album, she tops her newest one with a much more classier tone, playful melody lines as well as tricky & simple arrangements. The choice of original song is wise and it's put all well in order. You find yourself listening to an album and not skipping from song to song looking for a hook. EVERY song has one. For example: Opener "Blue Patrol" reminds of a classy Miles medium tempo classic that could have been written for a "Ben Hur" remake. Collins' melodies are simple yet clever. The minute you think you've figured out the melodyline she leads her beautiful tone into fresh new territory that surprises.

Bold, Brassy and Brilliant!

Loving this recording by Ms. Collins. Absolutely fabulous production value, groovy tunes and excellent playing by all involved. I loved the journey taken throughout the program from the boisterous and brassy Blue Patrol, to the touching August Won. Lots here for a variety of listeners, whether at a party, out for a jog or at home for the night. Collins' effort is a 21st Century take on what Herb Alpert and Chuck Mangione began in the 60's and 70's and this woman is operating at a very HIGH level. If any of that sounds appealing, I'm sure you'll enjoy this recording as much as I do!
