REVIEW:

KILLING WORDS - ‘KILLING WORDS’ (CME RECORD GROUP)

A band from New Jersey/USA with a darker mid 90s Progressive Metalsound (without keys). The band is mixing all kinds of influences, although they remind me most of all of mid 90s act VISIONARY (if anyone remembers them!). The music is dark, with even some ALICE IN CHAINS type of harmonies reflecting a sort of Grunge meets Psychedelic 1970 approach, but still melodic enough to call it Progressive Metal, and actually the band is also melodic rock orientated with some awesome guitar and vocalwork. 9 songs are included and we definitely are listening to a high quality release. The band has a superb lead singer (Tom Ragusa â€" this guy can really sing very well, especially on a song like “Quote â€" Unquote”), who reminds me of SEBASTIAN BACH meets LANCE KING and some of the included songs are really impressive, such as “Open eyes” (catchy tune actually, like RUSH meets FATES WARNING, very melodic rock orientated as well with strong chorus, great vocal and guitarwork) “I don’t know”(80s melodic rock type of song, like RUSH/TRIUMPH) and “Fire in the sky” (a pure DREAM THEATER type of song, with even JAMES LABRIEish vocalwork). Despite a slight 90s dark Grunge touch (really not much actually), this band mostly moves into a style that sounds like a mix between 90s guitar orientated progressive metal and 80s melodic rock choruses. Only the production could have been better but do check out KILLING WORDS at: http://www.phillysplash.com or and e-mail at: Larry@phillysplash.com
