Album Notes

KTV is a band hell bent on using beats and rhymes to sound like bent hell, flipping abrasive and dissonant punk and bop samples instead of typical boom bap. It's difficult listening, but which would you rather have: an avant adventure or more of the same? -Fader Magazine

Born out of the ashes of NY rap group Odd Jobs, the four members took the unlikely turn of leaving behind a successful project with a simple indie rap vision & a solid foundation in the big apple and returned to their home base of Minneapolis to begin conspiring an inventive amalgamation of art brut, gut bucket blues, rustbelt punk, noir jazz and scorched earth crunk.

2005 saw their self titled debut hit the streets on Locust's Jib Door imprint - Misfits style cover homage and all - to critical acclaim by the likes of Prince Paul, Salon, Fader, CMJ, Blow Up, the Onion & all the usual Minneapolis suspects amidst much head scratching.

Fall 2006 saw the release of a 12" single of the burning "Moonshine" along with contrarian mixes by Andrew Broder's Fog project and Jib Door labelmate Yea Big, followed by the release of The Careless Flame - a more fully formed statement than on their debut. Like the title suggests, this is a burning opiated confessional filled with big apple blues and near eastern hookahs, revival time preaches & ghost whispers from the Harry Smith archives.

As Oddjobs, the group headlined several tours and toured nationally with De La Soul, DJ Shadow, Atmosphere, Lyrics Born, Buck 65, Zion I and many others. The group also performed spot dates with Talib Kweli, Snoop Dog, Aesop Rock, Mr. Lif and Sage Francis. As Kill the Vultures, they have played gigs with The Roots, Tapes N’ Tapes, Queens of the Stone Age and Atmosphere and have headlined successful tours across Italy, France and Switzerland. MC Crescent Moon has also toured internationally several times as the guest vocalist for Rhymesayers groups Eyedea & Abilities and Atmosphere.

“Elements of the raw holler of old style delta blues and the jagged clatter of New York’s brash punk-jazz scene with beats that boom like thunder and clank like metal dropped on a factory floor. On it’s second album, the Vultures trip the dark fantastic, giving strangers the evil eye and snarling about wine thieves. The Careless Flame has less in common with the glitz of mainstream hip-hop than it does with the earthy outbursts of Tom Waits’ most recent albums. It’s often angry and bitter, though no less compelling for that-Flame has the feel of clouds gathering before a potentially terrifying storm. Which is probably what you should expect when vultures circle.” –The Onion
