Album Notes

"This song means a great deal to me. One of the most important things for me in life is my ability to reach out and authentically connect with other people. I wrote this song about wanting to connect more deeply with one of my dearest friends. Over time, the song has taken on a much larger meaning for me. When I sing it live now, I am thinking about reaching out to the audience from the stage. When I sing it alone in my living room, I am thinking about reaching out to my friends and family who I might be missing a great deal because they live far away, or because I have not spoken with them in a long time. And most of all, I think about the greater meaning of reaching out. I have recently done a lot of work for the homeless in my community, and somehow it never quite feels like it is enough. There is so much work left to be done. When I become overwhelmed by that feeling of being 'only one person in a world full of problems,' I try to remember that all it really takes is one simple interaction with one person along our path to truly make a difference, both in our own individual lives, as well as in the world at large." (Reach Out. Words and music by Kim Baker. January 2012).
