notes

This was a totally different kind of album for us. We felt kind of cheesy doing a 'greatest-hits' kind of thing with only 2 CDs under our belt and NO real radio-singles (even though we have critically acclaimed songs and fan favorites)...but Bractune (drums) and I (Jeffry- guitar) ALWAYS wanted to do an acoustic album so the timing of us moving studios and heading into the holidays seemed perfect. We wouldn't be able to have any full on rock-practices since we'd be between facilities and now we'd have a disc by the end of the year like we had promised all our hard core fans! This CD is really a celebration of the special show we had to record the disc. It was very intimate and professional from the word go and has changed the way we approach booking our shows. We have come to understand that we only need a good room and some great planning to make a stellar event come together.

Okay, now that I'm done kissing my own ass, I'll just say there isn't much to say about the process behind this disc. We practiced these alternate versions A LOT. We had everything down and still made mistakes. We left them in the recording because it is truly a live recording. We avoided studio trickery as much as we could. Basically, we allowed ourselves to process the existing tracks just as any good engineer would at any live event (adding compression, reverb, EQ, etc...). You'll hear some bad notes, and some timing issues, but I think the end result of hearing Kimberlina's glorious voice floating above the majestic sound of acoustic guitars, piano, and violin makes up for any of the small errors that seem to creep in under the radar. One of our fans said it best "I can't hear any mistakes, it just sounds like you guys live!" Well said.

  • Simply Wonderful!
    author: Robert KP

Since I live in Southern California, I may never have the chance to see The Kimberly Trip perform live, especially in an intimate acoustic performance such as this. For this wonderful concert, they selected a collection of their most tender & emotional songs that showcase Kimberlina's exquisite vocals and the excellent song writing. The arrangements & musicianship of the band is as skillful as with their plugged-in work. Most of the songs are already favorites of mine(especially "Supergloo", "Anything But You" & "The Pretty Girls") but the lovely "Make Me Believe" was a delightful surprise to me. If "The Trip" ever records another live album, I do hope they will include the haunting "Snowflake" next time. The band's core of fans will love this album but so will anyone who appreciates modern acoustic music. Buy it!

  • I never realized she was the greatest singer on Earth...

I'm a fan of this band. I absolutely LOVE their 2 studio albums, and was very excited when they had a new disc out (especially since the ink isn't even dry on the last one)! My excitement turned to horror when I saw it was one of those crappy, unplugged discs - bands milking every song by playing on acoustic guitars, singing off-key and selling it as something new. I decided to listen anyway, and I cannot express the delight in hearing these versions of their songs! They really have gone above and beyond any expectaion of what a live, acoustic CD can be! If you have never heard this band before, you could buy this CD and have a favorite post-Counting Crows, acoustic orientated rock act without ever knowing the techno-punk, new-wave background of their studio albums. Everything from the complex acoustic guitar arrangements headed by the modern-day guitar-hero, Jeffry Wynne Prince and augmented by the texture-driven Misha, to the muti-instrumentalist role of Bractune, to the ever steady, rock solid bassmanship of Sierra gels to form a tapestry of sound behind the glorious, effect-free Kimberlina, who radiates above the music and seems to float on an ambient cloud with transcendent notes that I didn't know she could actually hit. I've read many reviews from their hometown which have sung the praises of her voice, and while I have enjoyed it, I never realized she was the greatest singer on Earth until I bought this disc. 'Supergloo' should be the song to launch this band from underground phenomenon to superstar status. I HIGHLY endorse this album!! -Aaron Samual Powell, 'Rock Solid News', Washington D.C.
