Kim Cole
I'll Take the Cowboy
(Indie/www.amihere.com)
Kim Cole has been a constant if discreet presence in the local roots music roundabout for some time, performing solo in small clubs and cafes and lending her very pleasant voice to numerous recording and live projects by other artists, including singer/actor Bill Colgate, with whom she appears regularly on Friday nights at Graffiti's in Kengsington Market as part of his Urbane Guerillas ensemble. Her Debut CD, a collection of remarkably assured originals that convey a familiarity with classic Southwest country forms rather than with British based folk, owes a lot to the Market environment; it was produced by Vesy Tayyeb at his Kensington Sound Studios, a local musical landmark and home to many Toronto musicians. It features many of the fine musicians who over the years have made Graffiti's a legendary honky tonk -Tayyeb on guitar and keyboards, Steve Briggs on guitar and mandolin, guitarist Wendell Ferguson, steel guitarist Burke Carroll, bassist John Dymond, drummer Gary Craig and multi-instrumentalist Dave Tufford. It's a very classy, understated recording that, despite the stellar musical help, presents an intimate and focused portrait of a seasoned singer and composer who deserved to be heard.

I love this cd - been listening since 2005. Kim's voice is fantastic and her lyrics never grow old.
