Album Notes

As female singer-songwriters continue to dominate the airwaves, Kim Monroe is in a class of her own. Street-wise and savvy, she delivers unbridled conviction and soul in every note, with lyrics that explore modern-day, tangled relationships. Watch out for Kim Monroe.

“There’s a lot of old-school R & B in her style,” says her producer, Mark Doyle, whose credits include Hall & Oats, Meat Loaf, and Bryan Adams. “No one knows where it came from. There is an emotional resonance in what she sings that crosses generational barriers. All of this heartache and feeling pouring out of this young person.”

Kim and Doyle co-wrote nine of the eleven tracks on her self-titled debut CD. Kim’s lyrics mixed with Doyle’s guitar-driven rock deliver a CD that is rich with soulful R & B-influenced vocals and hip-hop grooves, laid on top of vintage guitar funk.

Her first full-length CD, “Kim Monroe”, won a Syracuse Area Music Award (SAMMY) for Best R & B Recording in 2005. The previous year, Kim’s three-song EP was selected in the top five of her category and honored with a SAMMY nomination for Best Pop Album.

Kim’s live band includes Matt Hampson on bass, Liz Strodel on drums, Will Tobin on keyboards, and Matt Sears on lead guitar. The members also add backing vocals.

“Kim Monroe is going to be a star,” says Big Mike, from Sunny 102 Radio. “What talent: strong vocals, knockout looks, she even writes great tunes! She’s got it all and soon the rest of the world will know it!”

Don’t let Kim’s youth fool you.

“Mature and soulful, Kim Monroe has been wowing audiences since the ripe old age of 17,” wrote the Syracuse New Times. “Considered beyond her years musically, she has received praise for vocals and lyrics that are both hip and wise.”

Great CD! Has done wonders for me, can't even explain the magical qualities this music brings out in me at the best of times and the worst of times. Aside from it being easy and great to dance to, the lyrics resonate with power and truth.
