Kim Ward is an emerging singer/songwriter
author: SIC MAgazine
She spent 7 months putting together her debut album, Outside my Square', the album is a collection of songs written over a few years and features some fine musicians. Some of the material was recorded back and forth between guitar legend POM in the U.K and Kim, although she started the album with only some studio experience, Kim says it was definetly a learning curve for future projects. Before I even put this cd in my player I was hit by the soulful, talented art that decorates the cover and cd input - this chick is an artist in the real sense of the word. When finally I tore my eyes away and opened my ears, I was impressed. I didn't even notice when the album came full circle and track 1 started playing again - in fact it took me half the song before I realized I was actually humming along with it. If that's not a full pass in the quality test, I don't know what is. This is the perfect music to clean the house to on a sunny morning. Easy listening, not quite jazz, not really pop, just soulful songs, acoustic guitar and a truly beautiful voice. With the exception of 2 tracks, Kim plays her own guitar and most of the extra percussion. I honestly reccomend hearing this album.

A voice that will draw you into songs that will move you
author: Jo Bane
This album is something quite unique, Kim has not stuck to any format, her tunings, her timing, she bends it to fit the expression, there are never any rules in her songwriting, she shows no mercy to herself as she searches to grow through self examination, and her live performance really shows this, somewhat shy, yet so lyrically open about her heart, A voice with remarkable quality and originality. On this album, be sure that you will find a song that will reach you

Kim Ward has a delightful voice, warm and original. A Tauranga based singer/songwriter, Ward appears regularly in duo's but this is her first solo effort. The 11 all-original tracks feature some fine guitar playing by Ward herself, Gorgeous percussion and fabulous bass, good arrangements, all in all a warm and pleasant album, the songs are unhurried and the textures rich.
